Ever Since

Story Behind The Song

I went through a long spell without any crushes or interests or anything at all involving something remotely resembling romance. So I started to miss it. And once you realise that you do, it snowballs. Ever Since is not talking to any girl in particular, it's talking to love. The line, "don't lie awake, there's more to life than just the sacrifices you have to make..." are actually my own thoughts. I was suffering from a bit of insomnia and worrying about what I had to do to get my family out of the strife we were in with finances. Ever Since was my alter ego telling me to chill out. It didn't originally have the boppy folk rhythm but one day I was singing in my more Australian accent and it decided to put the stamp of my home country on it by making it sound more like a bush ballad than pop rock. Influences include Sugar Ray and the Waifs.

Lyrics

There?s been a change around here ever since the summer dear
The only thing I have to give, these words you left me with
Love, don?t lie awake there?s more to life than just the sacrifices you have to make

So I?m divin? into shallow water
Swimmin? in the deep river
Livin? like I shouldn?t ought?a
And it?s okay

I?ve lost the point, can?t preserve, I only keep what I deserve
I don?t wanna live to regret the day that I forget
Love, I won?t lie awake cos there?s more to life than just the sacrifices you have to make

So I?m spinnin? ?til I?m dizzy
Singin? ?til I?m crazy
Pretendin? that I?m busy
And hey, it?s okay

Ever since you went away

Ever since you left me scarred livin? easy is so hard
I?ve lost concern but not enough cos you?re not here with me in love

So I?m cruisin? in the wrong lanes
Usin? people?s long names
But it hasn?t been the same
I?m divin? into shallow water
Swimmin? in the deep river
Livin? like I shouldn?t ought?a
And it?s okay

Ever since you went away
