Down

Story Behind The Song

Down started as a tool for me to learn a looping program I'd just bought. I wanted to do something a bit different than the types of acoustic pop songs I'd been writing. I wanted to get away from a lot of strumming, and go towards something more rhythmic. The drum loop, and the looped fingerpicking progression helped that. Thematically Down deals with feelings of failure in relationships, keeping up a facade of status quo in order to not hurt the other person. Sacrificing your feelings for your partners, and how that ultimately doesn't do anygood.

Song Description

Down starts with an intricate acoustic guitar part that continues througout the song, and a hip drum part with a backbeat. After a short intro of acoustic and drums, the vocals and bass are introduced for the verse. Electric guitar introduces itself with a distorted melody line between the first and second verses as the intro is restated. After the big choruses and a vocal bridge the electric guitar really shines with a melodic solo that builds into the final chorus. This song ends as it begins with only drums and electric guitar.

--MIX MINUS AVAILABLE FOR THIS TRACK--

She don't come around anymore like she used to
She still comes around
I can't hold her like I used to
I just hold her down
It's thoughts like these that keep me longing for the night
Where I can hide my eyes

Lately I can't look anyone directly in the eye
Today my head is hanging on regrets I can't deny
For all the good intentions do me
I might as well not try, I might as well be blind

I can't love alone
Like I can't breathe on my own
Because you're the air and you're gone

I'm tired of tletting pain the only emotion that gets through
You can't get to me and I can't get to you
Drag my heels a bit it backfires
I end up alone
Another Sunday morning crying feel so low, so low

I can't love alone
Like I can't breathe on my own
Because you're the air and you're gone

Gone, I feel the air
Gone, I feel your weight
Gone, I feel nowhere
Because you're the air and you're gone.

I can't love alone
Like I can't breathe on my own
Because you're the air and you're gone

She don't come around anymore like she used to
But she still comes around
