Product of the Pieces

Story Behind The Song

I wrote this song in response to things that were going on with my family. I came from a family that did everything right for the longest time. As thankful as I am for that, I also learned that when things got shaky, it was harder to regain balance, for the sole reason that things never got shaky before.

Song Description

Some people are much older than themselves. What I mean by this, is that some people have experienced so much in their lives, that they have a much richer knowledge of reality than others around them. The only reason they are like this, is because they were ALLOWED to fall down and get back up again. Learning to get up again, is perhaps the most valuable lesson you can't learn in school. Our elders teach us (and respectfully) everything to prevent us from ever falling. However, I find it important to take what we learn with a grain of salt, and let ourselves go through the mud a little bit. It is a philosophy song targeted to both sides of the demographic (the wise elders, and the young clueless hopefuls).

Lyrics

So maybe, I have been quiet lately
I guess I have too much to say
I'm done with the pressure of explaining
My life as if it were tailor made

Cause everybody wants to help me out
They sit me down like a talk show
But some things you gotta let me feel before you let me know

I got so much life to live
I got places I've never been
A lot of blanks, but I don't want nobody fillin em in
I got so much heart to break
So don't save me from my mistakes
Cause in the end I'm just a product of the pieces
I find along the way

You swear it, you've been there
You're an expert
A crown that everybody claims
So I'm left here with everybody's answers
Funny how the right thing to do always seems to change

Look I appreciate the helping hand but
I wanna wander over broken glass without tomorrow on my shoulder
And sorry on my back

Somewhere in me there's a purpose in the making
Somewhere in me there's a soldier still in training
Somewhere in me there's a purpose in the making
Somewhere in me there's a soldier still in training
Somewhere in me there's a purpose in the making
Somewhere in me there's a soldier still in training

I got so much life to live
So many places that I've never been
A lot of blanks, but I don't want nobody fillin em in
I got so much heart to break
So don't you worry if I go astray
Cause in the end I'm just a product of the pieces
A product of the pieces
I'm a product of the pieces
I find along the way
