Story Behind The Song
I wrote this song at the beginning of the pandemic. Like many others, I experienced a great deal of loss and disappointment from not only my work life, but mostly my personal life. Along with my tours, businesses, and ambitions all hitting a standstill as the world shuts down.
My relationship with both my partner and friends also took a turn for the worst. In a time where I needed someone to be there for me, I was instead left alone to my vices, and in return overcame them. Learned I did not need anyone to create the dream I wanted for myself, and these people whom I thought were my friends?
Were in fact the opposite. They were using my ambition, drive, and relationship to advance their own idealistic values. So much so, that if I hadn't broken away? If I had not experienced the loss of my entire social existence? I wouldn't have found myself, or the will to create the life I've always wanted.
I wrote this song about this experience in life. I wrote this song to remind me and those who put me through this? That I won because you could not break me. Instead, I've made me who I am today. Someone proud.
Song Description
After a very public break-up here in Hollywood, I found myself experiencing new social anxieties I have never known before. Particularly walking into a room with people who suddenly start talking about you and not directly to you. This happened the most with my EX, his friends, and anyone else that subsequently knew about it.
Although I found this experience socially disabliing for years. It created this sense of anxiety that motivated me to not only get away from these particular people in LA, but become the person I wanted to be completely without their input. WIthout their criticisms, aims to break me down, and their need to use me for my successes since they had so few.
This song is about that moment, those feelings, and that perseverance in a situation where you meet the people determined to break you.
Your presence is a simple SLAP to their face. You walk in as if you've taken all the hate, lust, and disappointment these people have given you, and created a better scenario without them. They thought abandoning you in your more desperate moment would break you, but you turned it into a triumph above all odds.
Yes you are reminded of all the pain, suffering, love, and good times you shared. But you have to keep reminding yourself, that these were not the makings of who you are. They were the smokes and mirrors put in front of you to keep you from the person you are today.
Who are you Today? Someone who's achieved a dream with so few to thank. Everyone is talking about you, your name, and your ambitions and for once you are okay with it. You've finally realized that you are not broken. You are unbreakable and in full control of the conversations around you.
This song is about that moment.

SONG: Eyes wide-open
VERSE 1:
Stop
What the ____ you always talkin bout?
You're always talking bout the ______ you don't know ____ about
All the little _____ you said cause now it's over
All the little lies you spread when you're not sober
PRE-CHORUS:
Got me looking at you
Got me looking at me
Got me thinking bout the way we used to be
Got you looking at me
Got you looking like _______.
Got you kicking down the doors you think I need
CHORUS:
Hey with eyes wide open
Staring me down with words unspoken
You can't believe that I'm still going
You were never great at taking away my moment
Got me looking at you
Got me looking at me
Got me thinking bout the way we used to be
Now with eyes wide open
I know I'm not the one who's broken
VERSE 2:
Watch.
Now I'm the only ____ they're talking bout.
Taking my name all over town I guess they like the sound
All of the rules that I've been breaking for exposure
All of the rules that they've been changing so bi-polar
PRE-CHORUS:
Got me looking at you
Got me looking at me
Got me thinking bout the way we used to be
Got you looking at me
Got you looking like _______.
Got you kicking down the doors you think I need
CHORUS:
Hey with eyes wide open
Staring me down with words unspoken
You can't believe that I'm still going
You were never great at taking away my moment
Got me looking at you
Got me looking at me
Got me thinking bout the way we used to be
Now with eyes wide open
I know I'm not the one who's broken
