Story Behind The Song
I wrote this song so long ago that I can barely remember the 'story behind the song'. This was the third song that I ever wrote (1999), but it's been one of the easiest to write and has remained a favorite of mine through the years.
A friend was venting to me about her ex-boyfriend breaking up with her for another woman and said, "why didn't he just lie to me and make me feel better?" I thought how we say that we want honesty and truthfullness, but sometimes what we actually need are lies....
Lyrically, this song had a slight revamping about 6 months ago, but melodically, it has always remained the same. I think you can actually feel what the character is feeling, like you are there in the room with her. This submission is a live, acoustic version of the song, which I think helps portray the raw emotion of the character.
Song Description
This song brings new meaning to the cliche "you can kiss that goodbye". She knows the relationship is going to end and she wishes desperately that she could find the strength to just walk away. But she can't. We've all been there at least once in our lives...when the pleasure of a single moment outweighs the pain you will experience later. She wants one more night, one more beautiful memory, to hang onto. She asks him to lie to her and let her pretend that this night will last forever.
