Story Behind The Song
I was walking through my office and for absolutely no reason I sang the lines, ?I?ll always remember that night in September?. I really liked those lines both lyrically and melodically and was immediately excited about the song that could stem from them. I very quickly sat down at the piano and finished the song. I love the line ?we were young and naïve, but too young and naïve to care??isn?t that the truth. And to my knowledge, Camden Creek only exists in this song. I wanted to create a tangible place that her happiest day occurred. It needed to be two syllables and I wanted to use alliteration so it would flow a little better. That explanation is not nearly as romantic as it should be. :) This song was written in 6/8 time because I thought the waltz feel captured the emotion of the lyrics. I think you can almost hear the memories at the end of the song.
Song Description
The literal interruptation of the song is that it's a story about a woman thinking about a lost love. But to me, this song is about looking back on young love, or youth in general, and remembering how you thought everything would always work out. I also like the idea that some things actually do last forever though someone or something else like a child, a photograph, or a memory. ?Because my happiest day belongs to you?, what was shared will never end.

Lyrics
I?ll always remember that night in September
When we walked down to Camden Creek
Beneath a blanket of stars, all wrapped up in your arms
I found what was missing in me
All my life, nothing had felt so right
We were drenched in pale moonlight
And the fireflies witnessed us promise forever
But the world moved fast
And our hearts moved slow
And we lost our way on love?s winding road
And although it?s gone
That love still lives on
Cause my happiest day belongs to you, belongs to you
We talked for hours on a bed of wildflowers
About nothing, about everything
Like getting out of this town or having kids running round
And seeing all that there is to see
And I knew, I would share all this with you
Heaven was finally in view
And I was sure that we?d make through anything
But the world moved fast
And our hearts moved slow
And we lost our way on love?s winding road
And although it?s gone
That love still lives on
Cause my happiest day belongs to you, belongs to you
We were young and naïve but too young and naïve to care
We were sure of tomorrow and sure love could take us anywhere
But the world moved fast
And our hearts moved slow
And we lost our way on love?s winding road
And although it?s gone
That love still lives on
Cause my happiest day belongs to you, belongs to you
I?ll always remember that night in September
When we walked down to Camden Creek
