Story Behind The Song
I was always fascinated by Amelia Earhart's story because of the courage it took for her to do what she did. No wonder she was so popular at the time. We could certainly use more people like her now!
Song Description
Amelia Earhart's display of courage is unrivaled. Particularly in an era when women were not expected to take chances. To fly a plane is difficult. To do so around the world without much navigation or communication equipment is daring. Nowadays I will hear about someone kayaking across an ocean with a boat beside them the entire time. Big deal. What Amelia did is out of that league by miles!!

Lyrics
Amelia, We Need You
You had the guts
No one did what
You could do
Amelia, we need you
Born in Kansas
Climb'n trees, bellyslamm'n
your sled
The sensation of exhilaration
was your inspiration
Struggl'n, no silver spoon
Not the easiest of childhoods
but you found your way out of the woods
You flew across the Atlantic
Though stormy, you didn't panic
Always doing your best
Puttin yourself to the test
Passionate, that's an understatement
Compassionate, everywhere you went
You had the guts
No one did what
You could do
Amelia, we need you
With Electra, you readied for world flight
Not fearing that fateful night
March 17,1937 - your first attempt
Every flyer you would preempt
June 29, same year, your second attempt - so near
Other direction, you went
Knowing wind and weather
Could blow Electra like a feather
Howland Island the destination
You and Fred, what was said?
We have no explanation
We fear you are dead
So long ago, we remember
Best wishes, each of us, would send her
Adversity could never bend her
Her memory we will treasure
You had the guts
No one did what
You could do
Amelia, we need you
