Story Behind The Song
This song looks back on how our lives change from the partying of the twenties to the "minivan" phase of grown-up family life. As we grow old, we realize that it is our relationships and families that are what are truly important.
Song Description
"Country strums and an accordion (a concertina actually) lead into some down home jams from an eclectic band. The singer has a gravelly tone that cuts through the banks of guitars nicely. Stories of drunken revelry and then solitary contemplation are pretty well articulated with folky fervour. Lamenting the loss of youth, the singer makes himself out to be older than we might think. There's good, classic rock moves that recall Springsteen or Cougar throughout this rust belt weeper. Nice." Actual Crowd Review Quote

Lyrics
Pass Me By
Brother Bicker
Verse 1:
Lock me out well it serves me right,
ain't coming home til the morning light,
come on, come on
Sleep til dinner then we do it again
life ain't nothing but a night of sin,
come on, come on
Twenty years old no end on sight,
chasing my tail drink drunk and fight,
come on, come on
Prechorus 1:
When I'm alone,
I hear the child inside
He's lost and he's cold
and trying to survive
Chorus 1:
I don't want to grow old and seelife has passed me by
All I want is for you to know,
know that I tried
Verse 2:
Twenty years on, there's nothing I need but I can't shake the doubt in me,
so long, it's so long
Try to live every day, the best I can be, but
that don't seem to be working for me,
am I wrong? Am I wrong?
Work all day then we do it again,
there's no us between the where and the when,
come on, come on
Prechorus:
When I'm alone,
I fear the man inside
It takes all my strength
not to run and hide
Chorus 2:
I don't want to grow old and see
life has passed me by
All I want is for you to
know, know that I tried
Bridge:
Whoa, whoa, whoa,
damn my foolish pride
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,
you're all that's good in my life
Chorus:
I don't want to grow old and see
life has passed me by
All I want is for you to know,
know that I tried
and as I watch them grow
my fear starts to subside
And I know,
I'm still here
and I'm alive,
I'm alive
