Voodoo Cabaret Bio
Dante Ingram is the force behind Dante's Voodoo Cabaret.
After working as a fashion designer, a shoeshine, and an artist's model, Dante started writing lyrics and melodies. In 1996, she ran away with a freak show, Psycho Circus, and performed with Mark "the Knife" as his assistant in the knife throwing act. She began fan dancing in 1997 with the troupe. In 1999 she started writing music with Tuey Connell and in 2000 with Jonny Polonsky. Through her writing partners, Dante became acquainted with some of the finest musicians in Chicago. With the help of their talent, she produced and released a CD, Songs for Saints and Sinners. With the band, she has incorporated the burlesque acts that were started in the Psycho Circus.
Dante has worked with at least seven different burlesque groups in Chicago and NYC. Those groups include: Chicago Burlesque and Vaudeville, Gurlesque Burlesque, DeCorps Costume Collective, Flirt, and VaVa Voom Room in New York City. With these groups she has sung, fan danced, balloon danced, and added a new half man/half woman burlesque act.
Dante can frequently be seen performing with Mark “the knife”, dangerous comedian. “Queen of Blades” is a song she wrote about being Mark’s target for the knife-throwing act. She has appeared with Mark on both Wild Chicago and The Late Show with David Letterman.
In 2002, Dante appeared on PBS television yet again. She danced a la fans for Ben Hollis’ Ben Around Town. In 2003, she had a second appearance on Wild Chicago with Dante’s Voodoo Cabaret and the fan dance.
Also in 2002, Dante’s music graced the soundtrack of Ivan’s XTC, a film by Bernard Rose, director of Immortal Beloved and Candyman.
Dante Ingram is a sexy chanteuse crooning to us about desire and temptation. She creates a modern cabaret that reflects both the horror and the humor of the bizarre times we live in.
