(D)SIMONE - Wish You Were Here Tonight [2015]
I wrote this song about two years ago when my wife was out of town for a couple days. We are not separated often, but when we are, she always makes jokes about how I must be enjoying my freedom. The truth is I pretty much only want to do two things...well three things actually...play music, hug my wife and have a good hair day. When she's home, our apartment is filled with noise and bustle, so when she's gone, it feels very empty. We have cats, but they are professional sleepers so I'm usually just by myself, and the first thing that occurs to me in these moments is...it's okay for a night or two, but really only because I know she will be back.
It seems to me that the world is very much a complex machine that will eat you alive if you let it. We live in New York and it's the greatest city in the world, but it's also easy to get caught up in the rat race thinking that you need to get somewhere or accomplish something. I will quote the Beatles, "All you need is love." And I know I'm very lucky, so when I'm not with the one I love, I write songs about her.
