Bio
AJ Szozda is a songwriter from Toledo, Ohio. He leads the blues/funk/rock group, The Blue Hook. He also has solo career and is the founder of Rockershop Records.
His songs cross many genres and are both personal and political. He is a dedicated musician who has written over 500 songs and is adept at many instruments including the guitar, harp, mandolin, and banjo.
His songwriting has started to garner some attention. "Darlin Come Home to Me" was a finalist in the Folk Category in the VH1 Song of the Year competition in 2006. In 2008, "Mexico Way", off the still to be released "Motor Oil and Whiskey album", was a runner-up in the folk category. "Loaded Gun Optimist", off the same album, was a semi-finalist in the Rock/Indie category in the UK Songwriting Contest.
The Blue Hook will be releasing their debut album, Motor Oil & Whiskey, in April of 2009. The band's style is reminiscent of early Zepplin-esque classic rock, yet adventurous arrangements and songwriting have this new music capturing a sound that is starting the rebirth of rock. Szozda leads on guitar and vocals with drummer Keith Roach and Pete Mann bassist rounding out the rhythm section.
Szozda is currently putting the finishing touches on his debut solo album due out this summer. Many of his fans and listeners have compared his work to that of Tom Waits, Greg Allman, Howlin' Wolf and Bob Dylan. He writes Singer/Songwriter/Alt Country/Folk tunes that speak to the heart of Americana.
