Susan Morris - Bitter Sweet
Susan Morris' aptly titled debut, Bitter Sweet, is a collection of self-penned reflections on broken relationships, loneliness, knowing what you want, and what you believe in. Her raw honesty is delivered in "Better", where she muses that sometimes it's not really better to have loved and lost, and in the courageously introspective "Wake Up". She beckons a man's sexuality in "Be A Man", and then crawls inside your heart like she's been there in "Truth Hurts".
Resisting but not dismissing the country heritage of her hometown, Nashville, TN, Susan remains open to a variety of influences. A stint at Nashville's School of the Arts kept her performing and singing into high school, but it wasn't until her senior year that she realized how big a part songwriting would play in her life. "I knew early on that I wanted to be a singer" recalls Morris, "but the songwriting became a part of me, it's not something I set out to do as a career, it's who I am"
Susan Morris is now a woman with a powerful, affecting vocal talent and a gift for translating those bitter memories we all have shared into song. Her diverse musical taste has morphed into a delightful collection of songs ranging from rocked out punk-pop, alt-rock, and power-pop. The pop world should welcome Susan Morris and her ability as both a gifted singer and a songwriter with an eccentric pop style.
