Electric Canon

My name is Stephen Gilbert. In Quebec, among the small winding streets of Montreal, I lived for 11 years. There, the culture is quite different from the rest of North America. You're not automatically exposed to non-french musicians. Now, I knew about Rock Voisine, but, when my family moved to California and I heard Guns and Roses, Ozzy Osbourn, and Bob Dylan for the first time, I was amazed.

Fast forward to the present. I am now 25 and living in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I think its below 30 outside right now. What ever possessed my family to move, from the warm weathers of California, to essentially an ice cube, I will never know. When it's so cold out, all there is to do is stay in and write music. Now let me tell you, it gets cold here often. The end result, of all these shivery nights, is an album I have called Electric Canon.

The songs on Electric Canon are not exactly like anything that has come before them, but I consider myself to be a singer/songwriter of acoustic, folk rock genre. The influences for the music I have written has largely been The Beetles, Bob Dylan, Elton John and various classic rock artists. There is a famous painting that I saw quite some time ago. It is called The Screamer by Edvard Munch. It is not particularly elaborate, but it evokes incredible emotion. That is what makes it great, and that is why it has survived as such a popular painting for so long. All forms of art, music being no exception, are bound to this fact. When I write, above all, I try to evoke emotion.
