My Check

Story Behind The Song

It's amazing when you're trapped in the working world. The job is the center of your life. You have to get up at a certain time, go to work, ask permission for days off, work through weekends because you "need" to get it done. You find that your job is the #1 necessity in your life at that time, you can't live without it. During this whole grind, you see people at the grocery store with over a hundred dollars paid for be the government. You see someone in your life not able to "work" because of a disability, a back injury that dosen't allow them to work(although they can play softball like a superstar). You see "victims" of society getting checks every week/month and would love to tell them to get off their ass and get a job. It's amazing when I lost my job because they closed down the branch of a company that I worked for. The initial reaction is..."wow, what am I going to do now?". Well, it's amazing when the check that you didn't think anyone else deserved all of the sudden comes to you. How liberating!!!...."That's right....keep sending MY Check. It's mine, I earned it :)....well anyways, My check is no longer in my mailbox, but the feeling was great while it was happening. Full time music now is even better!!!

Lyrics

My Check
Words and Music by Virgil Cain

My company closed its doors some days ago and left me out in the grass
I should be circling ads, instead, I stand here scratching my

Assessing opportunities, but nothing?s gonna happen soon
I go to bed past 4 am and wake up at the crack of noon.

This life is good enough, for me
Cuz I got something in this world that lifts me up, you see

Every other Monday I just visit my 5 questions on-line
Wait a couple days and walk outside and here I find

Chorus:
My Check is sitting in my mailbox
I?m going to buy that special something today
What the heck is everybody working for
Why should I get a job, to
Take a cut in my pay

6 months is almost here, I need to call the extension line
Press 1 for English then go straight to extension 9

Then 4 then 3, I need to mention
Live attention on the phone these days just ain?t what it used to be

Oh hello, is this where I go to say I need more time
All the jobs I see just don?t suit me, would you be so kind

She gives me 13 weeks, and I act so polite
I say thank you ma?am, I?m going to look real hard for that job, click, yeah right

Chorus

Bridge
George, he?s my friend with benefits
Hillary, she?s my friend with benefits

Chorus
