The People of the Light

Story Behind The Song

Dennis Miller the commentator/comedian once said while addressing some political policy, "I'm support the concept of me not being $#@!!! DEAD" On some other program once, I heard a fellow, who had made a concession of some kind and did the 'right thing' in some matter, said "I guess I decided if I'm going to be a person of the light..." This song is merging of those two concepts. The soldiers of our country are soldiers of the light; they are just protecting the light people. Our soldiers still cry when they see their kids after a long time, or have to leave them. Our soldiers are real people who don't worship death. The light people don't strap bombs around little kids and send them into a restraunt. We take them to the park and hug them when their sad. The 'story' behind this song is like the 'Waltons' I guess.

Song Description

I tried to capture many things in this one song. It initially captures love, in a poetic way, at the time of conception, while at the same time, the evn larger concept of eternity, and 'light' reproducing 'light' between light beings. Before the first chorus is over, it has captured how beautiful life is, and at the same time, 'life' is also a soldier, metaphorically, literally and poetically. The song then addresses the intrusion upon this beauty by 'people of the dark' and how the 'people of the light' will rise up and 'kill' them to protect their own. It says basically, that we love each other, and all people of the light are brothers and sisters, but we will become extremely violent if attacked. It's primitive I guess.

Lyrics

The People of the Light

(1)
Once upon a time one night
In the land of the people of the light
The secret recipe of life
Spied a finer moment

What in heavens name is this?
You?ve done he asked as the music switched
Inside them from a quiet kiss to
The Battle Hymn of the Republic

N' so deep inside their world at peace
She felt the Hymn til' he heard the feet
Of the infantry from where the half asleep
Got the dream of life a? glowin?

Chorus:

For left alone the light it will
Close its eyes and clone itself
And a smile of the like you just can?t get over
Will light up daddy?s little soldier
Saying hup two three four tickle drill
Last train to snuggleville

(2)
Once upon a time in the heart
Of the land of people of the dark
The murderous cries to tear apart
The people of the light

Turned the eyes of the beloved son?s
And daughter back onto their guns
As the light people?s brightest ones
Readied for the fight

Where a world of hate and a touch of evil
Put the face of death like a thread n? needle
One by one through the light people's
Iron sights

Chorus 2:

For left alone the light it will
Close its eyes and clone itself
But should evil comes to steal
The people of the light they will
On Blade, and bow, steel, and heel
Up and go they will to the killing fields

Bridge:

But if evil comes to steal
The soldiers of the light they will?kill

(But just) left alone the light it will
Close its eyes and clone itself
And the eyes of the like you just can?t get over
Will light up daddy?s little soldier
Saying hup two three four tickle drill
Last train to snuggleville
