Time And Tide

Story Behind The Song

(on the passing of my father and two friends, jan. 2020) ---- I recall observing a whirlwind one gusty Autumn day. Leaves and debris were picked up from the ground and whisked about for some seconds, some of which quickly spun off to be redeposited while still more was drawn up and carried aloft. But a moment later and it was all over, and all the flying debris succumbed to gravity's ever inexorable pull, returning to the earth from whence it came, and the entity which was this dusky vortex was only a memory. I reflect that I as a human being am scarcely different from such phenomena. I too am an assemblage of matter that is simply yielding to and behaving in accordance with the forces of nature. I gather matter, I shed matter, and I am again replenished with new matter along the way. The forces that sustain me are not unlike the force of the wind that can raise and carry debris in so striking a fashion. And scarcely less quickly than the whirlwind, the matter and the forces that have given form to me will dissipate, and I will cease to exist. -- Neither caesars nor gods, much less you and I, can stand to the fury of oblivion. All we have is the present moment. Love with all your might.

Song Description

Clearly not a 'song' per sec. More like an exploration. An experimental, stream of consciousness sort of journey.

Song Length 8:07 Genre Jazz - Fusion, Unique - General

Cool intro... a bit of sci-fi to kick off this epic piece. The synth arpeggiation and progressions kick in nicely. Very cool vibes throughout... a sort of ELP meets Herbie Hancock meets Jan Hammer recipe with interesting and complex riffs folded throughout. The synth sounds are all vintage with a few modern atmospheric washes and effects. Very cool change at the ~3:20 mark. This piece traverses many disparate "scenes"... so much so that it would be a great soundtrack piece that could be at home to various TV/Film and/or voiceover productions. Great work throughout!

I really dig the angular piano and synth lines. The organ and 8 bit synths are my fav. Reminds me of cross between dave Weckyl and the snes metroid soundtrack. Drums and bass are solid. The toad approves of this track.

Classic Jazz Fusion sound with some great modern twists and turn. Excellent work very imaginative and well produced.

Very cinematic, atmospheric and impressive. Draws attention.
