Song Description
this song paints a picture of a child raised by a single mother who dies young . The boy makes his own way as the lyric describes, "everything I ever got I learned it on the run" Then as a man, finds it hard to put down roots and settle down. He is chained to the legacy of a father he never knew and struggles to break away from the behavior that preceded him. He is still not sure he can do it and warns off his lover " I don't know if I can shake these restless bones " Maybe the sins of the father have been bestowed upon the son. Is this restlessness inherited? does he have "rambling in his blood" The artist say's the idea came from his fathers experience, as his father left him when he was 12 years old. The song is set up with a traditional form , acoustic instrumentation and vocal harmony. A bluegrass er that would play well with fans of Doc Watson, Tony Rice, Old Crow Medicine Show , The Avett Brothers, Jim Lauderdale and others .

Lyrics
Wandering Soul
© 2021 Bob Stump
My daddy was a travelin man he left my mamma all alone
she said he was just a rolling stone never even telephoned
Mamma raised me right from wrong
but she died too young
everything that I ever got I learned it on the run
don't give your heart to a travelin man
cause the highway is his home
he's got ramblin in his blood
and a wandering soul
Little towns or big cities may be the country side
every time I try to settle down I'm never satisfied
woman you can try and hold me here
or you can weep and moan
but I don't know if I can shake these restless bones
don't give your heart to a travelin man
cause the highway is his home
he's got ramblin in his blood
and a wandering soul
