Story Behind The Song
In 2008, while living in Rome, Georgia, I decided to rekindle my passion for singing, songwriting, and performing country music. After finishing a typical three-hour phone call with my witty and eclectic friend Daniel Runyon, I saw he was calling back and let it go to voicemail. When I checked the message, he shared a song idea with me: "If you're leavin', please leave me the beer." That simple phrase sparked the entire concept.
I wrote down the title and spent some time trying to craft the song around that hook. Eventually, I tweaked it to "If You're Leavin' Don't Take the Beer," which felt right. About a month later, during my first trip to Nashville for a songwriting conference with NSAI, I met my good friend CJ Solar. Together, we sat down and finished the song as it stands today.

Lyrics
[Verse 1]
You can take the TV
You can take the couch
You can take the cell phones
And the keys to the house
But there's just one thing
I need here
If you're leavin'
Don't Take the Beer
[Pre-Chorus 1]
It ain't hard to see
It ain't hard to understand
I came home last night and you were drinking with another man
[Chorus 1]
You might think you're the only one I want
You might think you're the only thing I need
Let me make this perfectly clear
If you're leavin'
Don't Take the Beer
[Verse 2]
You can take the pictures
You can take the bed
You can take your mother
And all the sweet things she said
But there's just one thing
I need here
If you're leavin'
Don't Take the Beer
[Pre-Chorus 2]
It ain't hard to see
It ain't hard to understand
Drinkin my beer was bad enough
But you drank it with my best friend
[Chorus 2]
You might think you're the only one I want
You might think you're the only thing I need
Let me make this perfectly clear
If you're leavin'
Don't Take the Beer
[Bridge]
It ain't hard for me
It ain't hard to understand
You can take everything I own
But my heart lives in these cans........
[Chorus out]
You might think you're the only thing I want
You might think you're the only one I need
Let me make this perfectly clear
If you're leavin'
I said, If you're leavin'
If you're leavin'
Don't you.... take..... my....... Beer
