I wrote it one Christmas, when I was a young man and it was my first time to spend Christmas away from my family.

Lyrics
Wishing for a fireplace on a cold Christmas Eve
Waiting for Santa and a tall Christmas Tree
A tree trimmed with trinkets and snowflakes of lace
and plenty of presents
scattered over the place
CHORUS
Well I'm dreaming of Christmas
at home on the farm
Mother knits sweaters
while sister holds the yarn
Daddy and Billy pitching
hay by the barn
I'm dreaming of Christmas
at home on the farm.
Left home for the city lights
when I was eighteen
Played every juke joint
from Austin To Queens
Where the money's not easy
and the living is lean
It's no place to spend
a cold Chrstmas Eve
CHORUS-
I'm dreaming of Christmas
at Home on the farm
Smell of baked cookies
and the taste of egg nog
Mother hums softly
while I sleep in her arms
I'm dreaming of Christmas
at home on the farm
BREAK
CHORUS-
I'm dreaming of Christmas
at home on the farm
Mother knits sweaters
while sister holds the yarn
Daddy and Billy pitching
hay by the barn
I'm dreaming of Christmas
at home on the farm
Outside my window
the neon lights flash
I'm stuck in this hotel
Without any cash
If I could get the bus fare
to get back home
I'd pack my bags and guitar
and be back on that road
Cuz...
I'm dreaming of Christmas
at home on the farm
smell of baked cookies
and the taste of egg nog
Mother hums softly
while I sleep in her arms
I'm dreaming of Christmas
at home on the farm.
