Story Behind The Song
I grew up in a small town in Norheast ARk. and I knew plenty of kids like this one whose parents worked hard and they took them for granted, yet they were still loved. I was one of those kids as a teenager. It sorta has that prodigal son theme and I thought I would write about it, since that is my favorite story in the bible.
Song Description
The protaganist is son from a good hard-working, God-fearing family, but he squanders that good up-bringing. He is haunted by his momma's words that if he keeps sewing those bad seeds the result will be burdens that he'll carry to the grave. It is a country song w/ bluegrass leanings. It is up-tempo to counter the darkness of the story.

Lyrics
I grew up on a farm in Mississippi
where daddy he raised cotton and I raised Cain
We never did see eye to eye on nothing
cuz nothing ever stood in my way,
Chorus-
From having everything that I wanted,
and wanting everything I never had.
My daddy he worked hard for a living
while I threw everything away
on good times and hard fast living
cuz nothing ever stood in my way.
Chorus-
Mama she said son these seeds your sewing
are gonna grow and choke you to the grave.
Well I just turned my back and left her standing
looking for the son she never had.
Feeling all alone and abandoned,
cuz nothing ever stood in my way
Chorus-
From having everything that I wanted,
and wanting everything I never had.
Memories, they still haunt me,
looking over these golden fields of hay.
These chains around my legs they remind me
of burdens that I'll carry to the grave.
Chorus-
Cuz mama said son these seeds your sewing
are gonna grow and choke you to the grave,
but I just turned my back and left her standing
cuz nothing ever stood in my way,
cua nothing ever stood in my way.
