Story Behind The Song
I was inspired by the act of a simple hand shake and started thinking about the deep spiritual significance to a common gesture. A song started to take shape after a Memorial Day gathering May 30, 2010 where I was pondering the meaning of the day as I paused for a moment to remember the many men and women who served to help keep us all free.
Song Description
This song is about the deeper significance of a simple hand shake that many may not realize or understand. It is nothing less than a universal gesture of good well, but much more. Try to find an instance where two men or women (respectfully) shook hands and then on a later day killed or tried to kill eachother. Once the hand shake takes place, besides the physical touch, there is an emotional and spiritual connection as well. A deep bond and a connection that would afterwards, make a man feel that if he were to try and harm the other, it would be like harming himself. It is a spiritual impossibility. The magic of the hand shake is a one on one effect. I couldn't shake the hand of another man on behalf of a large crowd and have them all benefit. The president of the USA can not shake the queen of Englands hand and cause all of us to never harm each other. It must be one on one. We have actively, 5 active senses that merge with the hand shake and all the good feelings of each sense is transferred to each other through the 5 fingers and we become bonded. There is the saying "blood is thicker than water"(family). I believe "Common interest is thicker than blood" (friends who enjoy the same things),but the hand shake unifies us all and creates a permanent bond of love & respect for one anothers life. This concept is a better road to peace! "a five way street". Try this idea and watch it work.
I want this song to be a country song, even though someone might not think it fits that genre. To me, country songs typically have more down to earth clarity and depth in the lyrics, with little to try and decifer.

Lyrics
5IVE WAY ROAD TO PEACE
©2010 by Pete Hansen
We don't understand,
what we hold in our hand.
The truth has been disguised,
like veil covered eyes.
All that's good within the heart of man,
longs for peace around the earth.
Now secrets of five fingers in our hand
is starting to give impetus and birth.
To a five way street,
that'll shake the world to it's knees.
A five way street.
We found a better road to peace.
In virtue of five sences we can feel,
the covered truth of hope
that will reveal,
in reverence when we shake
each others hand,
what changes in the gesture
of good will.
What messages these words
are leading to.
And in spite of what our world
has suffered through.
All that's good will come
when we decide.
A clasp of hands will bond
and stem the tide.
It's a five way street.
Lets shake the world to it's senses.
A five way street.
Lets take the five way road to peace.
When you take these words to heart,
you can't hurt anyone.
And you wont kill a man
after shaking his hand.
Because a bonds complete,
and the union sweet.
It's a five way street,
we're going down the five way
road to peace.
The five way street,
extending hands when we meet.
It's a five way street,
we're going down a better
road to peace.
Five way street, five way street.
Five way street, were going down
the five way road to peace.
