Story Behind The Song
song about addiction, where the character drinks to excess to escape what a disappointment
he's been to everyone......and in dreams all is right with life and the loved ones he let down.
it's in the bridge he realizes if he'd bring some of the dream time to everyday life and apply it to it, he might be able to salvage relationships and start to come clean.....that's reflected in the end of the third verse as well.
Song Description
wanted to write about this topic in an Americana setting as I'm a big fan of pedal steel, and think it's actually an instrument that should be utilized in other music genres as well....I thought the slow tempo added to the phrasing of the lyrics....let theme breathe a bit.

Lyrics
I drank some with devotion,
then fell off the face of the earth,
just on the outskirts
of my accident of birth,
and drifted to a
sanctuary from my curse.
let myself on in, and
dusted off where I'd been, n'
shed those excuses that I've nursed....
I was in my other universe.
----
There, I am banisher
of demons and their minions.
there, I am on the side of
all the right opinions.
there, I get a mulligan for
all my bad decisions.
gratefully in the flow of
brighter scenarios;
forgiveness satisfies my thirst,
in my other universe.
Bridge: if I brought my every day to this connection,
maybe, by Christmas, I might see a resurrection.
----
sleeping it off,
home was the path of least resistance;
my inner compass
holding firm in its insistence.
more about the walk,
n' less about the distance.
sunrises sing to me
of what I used to be,
but could be again, maybe if I'd lift a verse
from my other universe.
