The Amazing Pursuit

Story Behind The Song

Written as a testimony of how far I had come, standing in front of one of the largest congregations in Jacksonville, leading worship when just a few years earlier, I was in rehab. In fact, most of my last year in the navy, I was back and forth in alcohol rehab. This was a statement of trhat point in my journey.

Song Description

"The Amazing Pursuit" is a confession wrapped in praise. The lyric openly admits to breaking promises, failing to honor vows, running from assignments, and leaning too heavily on mercy. Lines like "Promises I often made to You, I've broken so many times" and "Repentance is a word I use too often" set a brutally honest tone: this is someone who knows exactly where they've fallen short. But the heart of the song is not failure, it's pursuit. Over and over, the hook circles back to "It's amazing how You love me" and the reminder that God never leaves, never deserts, never totals up the score. The bridge turns inward, acknowledging being harder on oneself than God is, and marveling at a love that keeps chasing after them anyway. Musically, this sits perfectly in a contemporary Gospel lane as an uplifting, mid-to-uptempo encouragement piece: a soundtrack for grace, second chances, and the overwhelming, undeserved pursuit of God's love.

Lyrics

Promises I often made to You, I've broken so many times
Vows I made in front of You, haven't honored with my life
Said I'll do better if I had another chance, You take me at my word
New mercies as often as needed, unlike me You're true to Your word
It's amazing
It's amazing how You love me
How You love me
You'll never leave me You never leave me, never desert me
Times I choose to run and hide, after you gave me the assignment
Sometimes I'm not able to turn the corner, the road to happiness I couldn't find it
Even though I've had a million chances, there could be a million more
Repentance is a word I use too often, but You refuse to total up the score
It's amazing
It's amazing how You love me
How You love me
You never leave me, never forsake me, never desert me
It's amazing
Lord it's amazing
How You love me
How you love me
Never leave Never never never never never never never never never never
I know I'm harder on myself
than You'd ever be
I know You promised in Your word
that You would never leave
I know I take You for granted
Leaning on Your mercy
I run from You but You continue to pursue me
I know I won't give myself
The benefit of the doubt
I know the steps I need to take
To keep the sin out
I know my chances with You Lord
Might not ever run out
by the way You're chasing after me
by the way You're chasing after me
It's amazing
