Story Behind The Song

This idea comes from a friend of Dave's, who had a similar experience and noticed how the ripples spread on a calm lake and they reminded him of old friends. This is a non-singer, songwriter's home demo.

Song Description

As a man stands by the lakeside, he remembers past and long gone friends and a tear falls from his eye into the lake and causes ripples. As the ripples grow he remembers all the friends and then a drop of rain falls from the sky and causes more ripples, which eventually gently evaporate. This simple sight brings him peace and he's released from the feelings of loss.

As I stood there by the lakeside,
I thought of years gone by,
Of all the folk I've ever met,
And a tear formed in my eye.

It trickled gently down my cheek,
Then dropped into the lake,
I couldn't help but notice,
The ripples it did make.

Not one or two or three or four
But really quite a few,

The ripples grew and grew.

Just then a single drop of rain,

And landed in the same place,
As the tear did from my eye.

It's ripple was much bigger,
And moved much faster too,
