Story Behind The Song
This idea comes from a friend of Dave's, who had a similar experience and noticed how the ripples spread on a calm lake and they reminded him of old friends. This is a non-singer, songwriter's home demo.
Song Description
As a man stands by the lakeside, he remembers past and long gone friends and a tear falls from his eye into the lake and causes ripples. As the ripples grow he remembers all the friends and then a drop of rain falls from the sky and causes more ripples, which eventually gently evaporate. This simple sight brings him peace and he's released from the feelings of loss.

Lyrics
As I stood there by the lakeside,
I thought of years gone by,
Of all the folk I've ever met,
And a tear formed in my eye.
It trickled gently down my cheek,
Then dropped into the lake,
I couldn't help but notice,
The ripples it did make.
Not one or two or three or four
But really quite a few,
As I recalled so many friends,
The ripples grew and grew.
Just then a single drop of rain,
Came falling from the sky,
And landed in the same place,
As the tear did from my eye.
It's ripple was much bigger,
And moved much faster too,
As it embraced my ripples,
This circle grew and grew.
When it reached the final ring,
It sparkled like a star,
And took away all of my fears,
Of wondering how they are.
Then it slowly disappeared,
Not a trace there to be seen,
But left an air of calmness,
And a picture so serene.
Now as I pass the lakeside,
And look up into the sky,
Not one single drop of rain,
Or a tear falls from my eye.
Then I look across the lake,
No ripples to be seen,
But the memories are still with me,
Of the places where I've been.
Of all the folk I've ever
met,
No need to shed more tears,
The precious moments that we shared,
Throughout those special years.
