Story Behind The Song
This quartet was originally written as accompaniment to a song with lyrics, Brouillard (Fog), which takes place in fall, when leaves are breaking down in preparation for winter. Fall also represents middle age in the author's life: the lyrics start out by saying my eyes are seeking my way in the October fog; my soul is seeking sense in the fog of my life.
Song Description
Brouillard (Fog) for String Trio with French Horn has an earthy romanticism, with an interesting, somewhat spacey bridge. Replacing the first violin with French Horn successfully conveys pastoral fog in autumn.
