Story Behind The Song
A song dating back to the dim distant days when people smoked in pubs. Jul Cortoos and I (the duo Routes) had just played some tunes in a room above a bar. Arriving downstairs for a drink, we could hardly see as far as our beers. "These kids are quite some smokers," say I. "They can smoke whatever they like," replies Jul, "as long as they don't get smoke on my guitar." And a song was born.

Lyrics
You can burn up
You can burn down
You can turn up
You can turn around
You can blaze out
You can flare too far
But don't get
Smoke on my guitar.
You can strike sparks
Off the door and the floor
You can make marks
You can score some more
You can light up
This whole damn bar
But don't get
Smoke on my guitar.
It's a wonderful feeling
How I feel about you
And I wonder are you feeling
The same way too?
You can spit flame
You can spread spite
You can take aim
Like a sprite in the night
You can just singe
Or you can char
But don't get
Smoke on my guitar.
You can build heat
You can warm and warm
You can charm, you can cheat
You can calm, you can storm
You can pump steam
Wherever you are
But don't get
Smoke on my guitar.
It's a wonderful feeling
How I feel about you
And I wonder are you feeling
The same way too?
You can scorch and torch
Like never before
You can torch and scorch
And then come back for more
You can trail fire
Like a shooting star
But don't get
Smoke on my guitar
No don't you get
Smoke on my guitar
You just got
Smoke on my guitar.
