This work instills feelings of grief and passionate heartbreak in the listener. It is centered on a somber melodic line played by the lead trumpet. As the emotional torment of the trumpet melody grows, so too does the instrumentation, until it explodes in a climax featuring anger, pain, and the full instrumentation.
