Story Behind The Song
I had been thinking about writing a song about loss and grief for some time. One night, when I couldn't go to sleep, everything seemed to fall into place, and I wrote this song.
Song Description
I couldn't sleep, my granddaughters were spending the night and sleeping in the living room with my wife, and I kept thinking, " I wish I had a switch to turn my mind off." I grabbed my guitar, went in the bathroom, and quickly wrote this song.

Lyrics
Wish I Had The Key
Wish I had the key to turn my mind off
Then maybe I could get away from my thoughts
I'm missing you tonight, but I need to get some sleep
Wish I had the key to turn my mind off
Wish I had the key to turn the pain away
That gut-wrenching feeling, I get everyday
It's tearing me apart and I can't get away
Wish I had the key to turn the pain away
I get down on my knees and talk to God in prayer
I know that he listens and that he cares
But after losing you, I don't understand
Why you're not here
And I can't quit crying
Wish I had the key to a time machine
I'd go back to the time, when you were with me
I'd savor every moment, every minute, every day
Wish I had the key to a time machine
Wish I had the key to turn my mind off...
