The trigger for the song was listening to the Rolling Stones "Beast OF Burden" and tracing that back to singers like Solomon Burke and Ray Charles, then to "work songs" that deal with the resolve necessary to overcome oppression.The song was originally written as part of a musical revue.

Song Description

"Let It Go" is a ballad with a classic soul feel with an overlay of gospel that conveys the need to let go of fears and inhibitions. Let It Go has a chorus that owes a debt to Bob Dylan's "I Shall Be Released" and to the Beatles' "Let It Be" as well as numerous older tunes such as "Old Man River".
