THE FLIGHT
Music and Lyrics by: Bill Dake

It was a routine flight for Dan
A decorated veteran of Viet Nam
But things were soon to get scary
And just a little bit hairy
Yes they were
On this particular excursion it seems
There was a girl named Shirl
Who wore the tightest blue jeans
Our Dan was duly impressed
With the denim and all the rest
Yes he was
About an hour or so into the flight
The plane lost power,
Began to sink in the night
Dan said, "Don't you worry"
"I'm gonna save us Shirley"
Surely
Well, in a stirring exhibition of skill
Dan deftly planted the nose
Into the side of a hill
And in a crash like thunder
The plane was smashed asunder
Yes it was
When Dan finally opened his eyes
He had two busted legs,
But he was still alive
Our girl Shirl, she didn't make it
It seems her ticker couldn't take it
No, no
On the ninety-eighth day Dan was found
But our girl Shirl,
She was nowhere around
She hadn't paid for her ride
Dan took it out of her hide
Yes he did
