Story Behind The Song

The story behind 'Mark's Song' is a humorous one, at least the end of it is. Usually, the best way for me to express my deepest emotions is through the piano. When I learned of Princess Diana's death in August 1997, I was overwhelmed with sadness. I sat down at the piano and this tune was the result of that grief. A few nights later, I played it for my husband -- who I was merely dating at the time -- and he mistakenly assumed I'd written it for him! Silly man. :-) He suffers from clinical depression and because the theme of the piece is rather melancholy, I suppose I can understand how he'd reached that conclusion. At any rate, that's how the piece acquired its name!

A soft and melancholy melody, this is a piece into which you can immerse yourself fully. Originally composed following the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, it gained its current title from Betsy's husband. This is one of the most soulful tracks composed by Betsy.
