Longing

Story Behind The Song

Occasionally, we all ponder whether our life's choices have led us to where we really should be. 'Longing' was written during one of my retrospective moods a couple of years ago. It took perhaps a half an hour to write; the chord changes happened completely by accident. I was contemplating the 'what-ifs' of the roads not taken, which is why I tend to characterize the piece as an unanswered question. A clip of 'Longing' serves as the musical accompaniment for the opening movie of my website at www.betsyfoster.com.

Song Description

The melancholy undertones within Longing are unable to shake an elemental expression of hope that resounds in the sweeping chords. Betsy compares this work to John Barry's score for "Out of Africa" but there are also similarities to other scores such as Maurice Jarre's score to "Witness". Longing, however, can stand on its own as a work of merit, a score without a film.
