Song Description
This song was a labor of love after both Tina and I lost a parent. She had lost her father earlier and then my mom passed away some months later. The song feels more like an inspriational tribute to them.

Lyrics
IT'S A GOD THING
words and music by Stephen Amos and Tina Dod
I REMEMBER YEARS AGO,
SITTIN' WITH MAMA ON THE BACK PORCH,
OF THE FAMILY FARM WATCHIN' THE RED SUN SET,
SHE USED TO SAY YOU COULD PAINT FOR YEARS,
AND NEVER GET DONE WHAT GOD'S DONE HERE,
AND THEN SHE'D WAVE HER ARMS,
AND SAY JUST LOOK AT THAT,
MAMA RAISED US KIDS ON FAITH SHE' SAY SOME THINGS CAN'T BE EXPLAINED,
CHORUS:
IT'S A GOD THING,
FLOATIN' ON A RIVER THROWIN' OUT A LINE ON A PERFECT DAY,
IT'S A GOD THING,
STARIN' AT A RAINBOW WONDERIN' HOW THE COLORS WORKED OUT THAT WAY,
IT'S A GOD THING,
HOLDIN' THAT FIRST BORN CHILD,
YOU'RE GONNA FIND A LITTLE MIRACLE,
EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE,
IT'S LIKE HEARIN' THE ONE WHO MAKES YOUR HEART SING,
FINALLY SAYIN' YES WITH A REAL GOOD RING,
IT'S A GOD THING.
AND ON THE DAY MY MAMA DIED,
I ASKED THE GOOD LORD FOR A SIGN,
AND THEN THE LIGHTENING STRUCK,
AND THE THUNDER ROLLED,
LATER ON MY MAMA CAME,
TO VISIT ME IN A DREAM,
AND SHE BROUGHT GOD'S LOVE,
AND THAT SHOOK MY SOUL,
NOW WE'VE ALL HAD THOSE DAYS WHEN EVERYTHING FALLS RIGHT IN PLACE,
CHORUS:
MAMA'S GONE BUT LATE LAST NIGHT I COULD SWEAR I
CAUGHT HER,
SINGIN' A LULABY TO HER BRAND NEW GRAND DAUGHTER,
