Story Behind The Song
In 2018 a producer friend who I was recording with, was approached by a label for us to create a song for a tv scene regarding a man of the law who loses his dear friend, a Native colleague. I prayed on it, and wrote "My Spirit Lives" that afternoon and we recorded it for a demo. Before submitting it I wanted clarification on the song, which they then informed us they did't want an original, they wanted an already hit song covered. So I then did that with 2 hits songs blended together.
This song, "My Spirit Lives" was just sitting in my computer and when Tony Franklin (AKA The Fretless Monster of The Firm, Kate Bush, Donna Lewis, etc), approached me about producing an EP for me, this song really caught his ear, and I rewrote the chorus and new arrangement and we recorded this version .
It is about the death of someone you care for, and holds the same tone of a Native as well as Christian, in the loss and the remembrance of the one you lost.

My Spirit Lives
(Music & Lyrics written by Pamela Bennett (PJ Bennett)
In the desert
In the tree
In the mountain
In the sea
In your heart
Look for me
You'll find my spirit
Now runs free
Ease my Ashes
Into the wind
Watch me glisten
As the sun sets in
Return my body
To the earth that gives
Feel in your heart
My spirit lives
Each soul has an evening of Faded sun
Each star greets the darkness
with it's light, alone
Life circles as the seasons
A promise of warmth
after the cold
In the desert
In the tree
In the mountain
In the sea
In your heart
Look for me
You'll find my spirit
Now runs free
Each soul has an evening of Faded sun
Each star greets the darkness
with it's light, alone
Life circles as the seasons
A promise of warmth
after the cold
And Ease my Ashes
Into the wind
Watch me glisten
As the sun sets in
Return my body
To the earth that gives
Feel in your heart
My spirit lives
Feel in your heart
My spirit lives
