Back Somewhere We Didn't Plan

Song Description

"Somewhere We Didn't Plan" -- Song Inspiration This song was born out of long drives with family, rolling through the quiet stretches of Route 66 and the small towns that sit just off the map. From the open roads around Albuquerque down through the backroads of Texas, there's a feeling you get in those places, like time moves differently, or sometimes not at all. You pass flickering signs, empty motels, late-night gas stations... and you start to realize those places hold stories that never really left. Some towns feel alive, others feel like they're just waiting. "Somewhere We Didn't Plan" is about that in-between space, between moving forward and standing still. It's about how life doesn't always follow a straight road, and sometimes you end up exactly where you didn't expect... but maybe exactly where you were meant to be.

Song Title: Somewhere We Didn't Plan
Music & Lyrics: Joe (Jay) Vetro

Verse 1
Flat soda on the counter
Billboard flickerin' sign
Nevada heat slowly risin'
Highway hum stays on your mind
Feet tappin' on the dashboard
Radio talks into the night
Dust keeps dancin', a-movin'
Crickets call in the pale moonlight

Verse 2
Gas station lights a-buzzin'
18 wheeler rollin' out slow
Rain drags across the roadside
Like it don't care where it goes
Trucks engine idles for no one Faces pass don't look my way
Clerk leanin' on the counter Watchin' time slip away

Chorus (Main)
Every town goes quiet too long
Neon fades but keeps driftin' on
Nobody stays where they began
Roads fold back where they can
Searchin' through another night
Tryin' just to feel alright
No one really sees the end
Just back somewhere we didn't plan

Verse 3
Motel sign keeps a-hummin'
Headlight shimmer rolls off my skin
Shadows slide across the room
Like nobody sever settles in
Coins drop from someone's pocket
Laughter drifts soft and long
Voices fade out in the doorway
Folks round here, gone by dawn

Chorus
Every town goes quiet too long
Neon fades but keeps driftin' on
Nobody stays where they began
Roads fold back where they can
Searchin' through another night
Tryin' just to feel alright
No one really sees the end
Just back somewhere we didn't plan

Instrumental Break (4 Bars -- Guitar + Harmonica)

Verse 4
Parking lot lines worn and washed out
Curtains barely hold their place
Welcome mat letters almost faded
Ghostly steps left with no trace
Hallway lights keep flickerin' slowly
Time feels stuck in every frame
Everything just moves coldly
Like it don't know what to name

Bridge
We were chasin' somethin'
Didn't know what for
By the time we found it
Didn't matter anymore

Chorus
Every town goes quiet too long
Neon fades and keeps driftin' on
Nobody stays where they began
Roads fold back where they can
Searchin' through another night
Tryin' just to feel alright
No one really sees the end
Just back somewhere we didn't plan

Final Chorus
Every town goes quiet too long
Neon fades and keeps driftin' on
Nobody stays where they began
Roads fold back where they can
Searchin' through another night
Tryin' just to feel alright
No one really sees the end
Just back somewhere we didn't plan

Outro
No one really sees the end
Just back somewhere we didn't plan
