Story Behind The Song
I imagined how we have that high school love -- or crush, maybe a friend that never became something more. Then, we go to college, start our lives, and we just become a memory to that person, stuck in a single frame of time. I chose "Firefly" as the title because I reference it indirectly, and it represents that last spark at the end of summer before fall when everything changes.

Lyrics
[verse]
summer is gone
the beach closes out
birds gather above
and take the main highway south
[verse]
I went by
your old house
got as far as the stairs
before i turned around
then i passed the old high school
remembering the time
we cut class stayed out til dark
with a bottle of wine
[pre-chorus 1]
you kicked off your shoes
danced in the yard
feet on the grass
underneath the stars
[verse 2]
i lit a fire
played my guitar
and made a silent wish
on a fast moving star
and you lit the night
with a flicker and spark
the last firefly
piercing the dark
[pre-chorus]
we didn't know it at the time
this was our last night
thought we had endless days
everything would be fine
and you promised to write
i promised to call
but it got further in between
and then nothing at all
[chorus]
You are here and then you're gone
you are world i cannot bridge to
it's no one's fault and no one's wrong
it's a path you just lean into
we move in and out of different shapes
always in a state of constant change
there is a peace that we pursue
in someplace we cannot name
but we go there just the same
[chorus]
You are here and then you're gone
you are world i cannot bridge to
it's no one's fault and no one's wrong
it's a path you just lean into
