He was my accidental father, I was the unexpected kid
There was no plan for my arrival, disappointment when I did.
He'd worked out his escape, but it took too long,
And he could not stand the thought of leaving us alone with mom.
He took 20 years to leave her, but he was never home,
so when life brought me a lesson, I learned to work it out alone

While my mother spent her time assigning all the blame,
I took the time to find the things that make the rest of us the same.
And it was hard for us to watch how Mother held her grudge,
and what she failed to see is what we needed most was her love.
