Lyrics
This piece started life as a home demo I recorded in 1994. The original version was recorded on a simple setup typical of the time, but the melody and groove always stuck with me.
I wrote the first one on a Tascam four track. Which is more interesting because I traded a song for it and an old fender single speaker tube amp. The Four track had been in a studio loft apt in down town LA when the apt flooded and the four track was underwater for a time. Still I got it to work and thus began the move into multi track. What also might be a odd is that I have never sold a guitar, or any piece of equipment I have owned. I have it all, from the Strat and the Yamaha bass I played on this song, to the Roland drum machine. If you listen close you can still hear the sync track. I hated programming that machine. And I hated realizing that I had to make song structure changes.
I never thought I would ever have the chance to work all these old songs and ideas into finished songs. I included an updated version of it as well. At the time I thought I would add words someday.
We used to take surf trips down to Baja back then. It was fairly safe. But for the song I have always loved the combo of surf and Latin rhythm and horns.
