Lyrics
Heartbeat of the City - Lyrics by Craig James Coffey
Verse 1
Summer city dreamers racing home to escape the hive
High street bankers patting each other on the back, with their paper knives
Kids painting their smiles with gelato, good ol Mario's
while skimpy clad skaters distract street dancers from their stereo
Fitness fanatics fighting for a share of oxygen, oh yeah
Teenage lovers simulating sex on cold stone park bench
The usual group, of 'wanna be' highflyers, stumble out of 'Le Cafe'
Yeah this is the city, the city at play.
Chorus 1
Feeling the heartbeat of the city tonight
Magic in the air
Feeling the heartbeat of the city tonight
Rhythm and blues, your fair
Verse 2
Twighlight fades into the shadows of concrete and gold
Behind are artificial facade, lies her underworld
Bowie's beloved anthems escape through an open bar door
and a junky, wasted on life, drags himself off the floor
Queens and tarts line the side street, onlookers to the parade
Inner city boys contemplate the Cross or, the switchblade
Sirens fill her empty soul
Yeah a lonely world
And once again this is the city, the city in pain
Chorus 2
Feeling the heartbeat of the city tonight
Music on the wire
Feeling the heartbeat of the city tonight
Passion filled with fire
Ad Lib - Break
Can you feel the heartbeat of the city tonight
Can you feel the heartbeat of the city tonight, oh yeah
Chorus 3
Feeling the heartbeat of the city tonight
We are not alone
Feeling the heartbeat of the city tonight
The place that we call home
Outro
Can you feel the city tonight?
Can you feel her movement, her heartbeat?
Just close your eyes
And she will come to you
But don't let her get too close
'cause she will devour you
Can you feel the heart of the city tonight, oh yeah
