Rockets away are a strong and energetic band with an impressive live show! This band fuses a pop sound with a reconciable punk rock taste. Rockets away have often been held in the same regards as bands like The Clash, Social Distorsion, Blink 182 and Rancid. While rooted in punk rock, both in ideals and inspiration, the band has taken from their past experiences to form a more edgy punk sound. Rockets Away consist of members Alex Gauthier (vocals/guitar), Ryan Gelinas (secondary vocals/bass), and Karl Bedard (drums). This trio formed in Montreal, Quebec in mid 2005 and have put together their first demo in late 2005. Their music and ideas have given them a following in their home town of Montreal. The songs, the sounds, and their previous experience of so many live shows have given this trio a strong energy and stage presence. Rockets Away plan to record a full lenght albulm in late 2006.

After six rewarding years playing with The Ripcordz (punk Canada?s practical underground household name), bassist Alexandre Gauthier decided to make way for a new rising. Amidst the sun-laden summer days of 2005, he donned a sixstring, stepped to center stage, and took turning over a new leaf all the way to branching right off. The countdown was on to the launch of Rockets Away.
That October, Alex combined forces with sister Anne Gautier (Kickers, Hot Springs) and producer Rene Garcia (The Brains) to create a three-song demo honing the creativity of his fresh direction. He first turned to his complimentary four-string slayer and former band mate Ryan Stick (Judgmental) then to childhood friend Marc Andre (Ordures Ioniques), who wasready to swap sticks from playing French punk rock to the summertime beats of the melodic Rockets. In the closing weeks of 2006, Rene Garcia joined the band on lead guitar and their lineup was complete.
?We?re not going the American Idol route,? says Garcia. ?What we?re doing is what any producer could do with us. But we?re doing it the punk rock way. We?re doing it DIY.?
Any avid listener of old school heavy music will be gripped by the influence of The Clash and Social Distortion. The rebellious 90s edge of Rancid combined with the catchy riffs of pop punk prophets Green Day help to build the natural evolution of Rockets Away?s raging spirit into the sound of the next age.
Andre reflects on the construction of the album comparing the change to the evolution of punk legends Bad Religion. ?We did ?Could Hell Be Any Worse? for years. Now we?re doing ?Stranger Than Fiction?.?
What tears this band ahead of the pack is their experience that can only come from each member having played front man in their own successful projects. Chemistry and confidence are only the beginning; these guys can all actually sing.
RA is blasting off with an 8 song EP and two music videos set for a release in late spring. The band will also be featured in 3 Seasons, the new film by director Jim Donovan. Expect a North American tour for the summer of 007 and expect waves. Rockets Away.
