I started piano lessons at 6; improvised/composed at 14. Studied jazz composition in Boston at the New England Conservatory (Class of '92). Flew to Japan that summer and taught English & German four years while leading an original rock band called General Stone Tiger. Returned to the US and did grad work in composition at NYU. Joined the USArmy Band in 2000 performing big band jazz throughout Europe. Switched to the USNavy Band after 6yrs, stationed in Japan, Hawaii & Chicago. Really enjoyed my 22yrs of service. I learned a ton, met tons of great musicians & performed all around the world—classical & jazz to pop & rock, sometimes as band leader, conductor, staff arranger or recording editor, but usually just as a grateful piano player. 

Now I’ve got my own one-stop music production company: SAMcoffeyMusic. My door is open to offers from filmmakers who need some compelling custom-made tracks, producers who need songs that aren’t just run-of-the-mill, or contemporary classical or jazz musicians who are interested in performing challenging & exciting new works.
