Firstly let me go back to the explosive era when Punk Rock swept through the U.K. youth, threatening to tear the tired old music industry apart. Its influence left a clean canvas for musicians and the industry to paint their interpretations of what modern pop culture should sound like. Good and bad have played their parts leading up to what we now know as the modern popular music industry and the sound of the culture within.
Teenage punk Rockers David West and Jar Joyce were among the enlightened and their guru was John Peel, whose presence on the ‘scene’ gave them and young musicians alike hope and with it the strength to continue to extend the boundaries of pop music’s potential. A mission that was constantly dealt blows by the hierarchy as it struggled to keep a grip on its financial security.
