MADELINE LEW'S BIOGRAPHY

Madeline Lew was born on November 16, 1985 in San Francisco, California to a Chinese father and Japanese mother of mixed heritage. She has two older brothers, which includes her brother Patrick from their band PLB. She later moved to British Hong Kong at an early age to live with her mother's family for most of her childhood and her adult life.

Madeline attended YMCA Christian College for high school in Hong Kong. And also lived in Osaka, Japan. She began learning how to play musical instruments while attending high school. While she is primarily a bassist, she can also play rhythm guitar and has experience and skills with digital and electronic music.

As the bassist and occasional singer/songwriter of the Patrick Lew Band (PLB) since Halloween 2015, Madeline made a quick rise to the top regionally and on the Internet with her older brother's band. Before joining her older brother in the band PLB, Madeline was living with her mother's relatives in Hong Kong, working numerous day jobs and studying graphic design at University of Hong Kong. She also was previously a bassist and rhythm guitarist in a few local Hong Kong punk rock bands. By 2015, she relocated back to her birthplace of San Francisco, California, to join her older brother Patrick and drummer David Arceo in the Patrick Lew Band.

Madeline's tenure with the Patrick Lew Band was met with critical acclaim upon her arrival, and her presence in the musical project brought the band back to prominence in the indie music circuit and locally in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her first appearance with the band in the studio was their 2017 release OAKLAND. Aside from playing bass on numerous tracks and recordings with the Patrick Lew Band, she has also lent her lead vocals to a few PLB songs, such as "BE YOURSELF!", "Burning Desire" and "Nothing Stands Our Way" on their 2021 album Rolling Thunder.

During PLB's second hiatus between 2017 and 2020, Madeline kept busy through digital print modeling, photography and also joined Patrick and his then-girlfriend Madoku Raye's band Crazy Loser in a Box! in the Silicon Valley. And also did a few side-gigs as an EDM DJ at rave music parties. Madeline was inducted as a member of the Patrick Lew Band (PLB) in the 40 Under 40 Hall of Fame alongside Patrick at his alma mater California State University - East Bay in 2019.

Madeline has also brought her public persona as a digital content creator. And has also become a prolific member of the band (like her brother Patrick) on social-media as a virtual comedian and influencer.

In 2020, Madeline Lew released her first solo EP titled TO THE MOON AND BACK worldwide on digital music streaming platforms such as Bandcamp, Spotify and Apple Music in partnership with CDBaby. In 2018, she also joined her older brother Patrick and his close friend Yandie Chien's experimental rock band Crazy Loser in a Box! as a full-time band member.

In late 2021, Madeline Lew officially launched her official YouTube channel. Which was rebranded and revamped from an earlier PLB music video related YouTube channel. Madeline is also the Assistant Manager of an It's Sugary candy store somewhere in Northern California outside of YouTube and being involved with the music industry.

Madeline Lew - Behind the Scenes

PLB Behind-The-Scenes Trivia & Shocking Confession: Madeline Lew is not really my biological sister.

Read this post to know more about the whole story!

Truth to be told, I don't actually have a younger sister named Madeline. I just wrote a weird back story in Patrick Lew Band (PLB) bullshitting you all and selling my music in a more diverse format.

In reality, Madeline is a fictional character and virtual band member in PLB (Patrick Lew Band). Kind of like a Hatsune Miku kind of thing.

In some ways, my fictional sister Madeline was partially directly inspired by Hatsune Miku. In general, Madeline Lew is Asian America's answer to Hatsune Miku pretty much, or trying to be! Since the theme and vibes are almost very similar...

Originally, I wanted to bring a cross-dressing female band member in PLB as early as 2009. However, due to limitations in technology and a lot of anti-LGBT vibes at the time and my band PLB catching a lot of heat on social-media, it would have to wait till a couple years later

Madeline Lew was created by me some time during Halloween 2015. And I wrote a bizarre yet interesting back story on how she joined my band. It wasn't intended to be a long-term thing of mines in my music and what I do. Whether it's my music or my persona. Originally, me crossdressing was a one-time thing at first on social-media.

Just so happens, the attention caught on pretty quick and brought the Patrick Lew Band to greater attention in the music scene and on social-media. And nearly fully restored PLB's popularity and consistency in the indie music scene.

Before Madeline, PLB was struggling to catch a break for once. The band came back not too long before she came in, and we weren't being taken seriously or doing as great as we kind of are now! When Madeline came in finally, that restored my credibility in music with Patrick Lew Band and brought it to a whole another level!

To be honest with you, I don't know why I started cross-dressing. I can't give you a good idea or explanation why I did that and made it into a phenomenon in my own solo music. I don't cross-dress for sexual purposes, and it doesn't mean I'm homosexual or anything. Although, I see myself as Non-Binary gender as a result of the gimmick.

How Madeline was created initially was a mix of Analog and Digital Special Effects. I would dress the part, and the photos would be digitally edited on a Virtual Makeover App on my phone or on my computer.

Early solo photos and band photos featuring Madeline Lew were very crude in quality. The technology to Gender Swap your likeness wasn't as advanced or that good enough yet!

I was already doing Gender Swapping way before Reface app and FaceApp was around and ready for the masses! My intention with Madeline was to create a cyber band member that would serve the band in a large way. What I was basically doing with this Gender Swapping gimmick of mines was a mix of Hatsune Miku and Blur's Damon Alburn's The Gorillaz.

Sometime in 2018 or 2019, when Snapchat and FaceApp began adding sophisticated Gender Swap features. I basically created Madeline's likeness digitally 90% of the time without having to legitimately cross-dress. That's when everything was completely all CGI and digital special effects to create the character in the PLB saga.

Madeline Lew is basically a patent and alternate musical creation of mines. These days, I use FaceApp to create the character I've created in my own musical universe and my own band. And use other sophisticated photo editing apps to make her likeness stitched and pasted together with mines in band photos.

Yes, I created a cross-dressing alter-ego and cyber band member in Patrick Lew Band. But that's not a bad thing or something to be shamed or looked down upon for sure.

I just thank you all for liking the character Madeline in general. As weird as it may sound to society.

Up the wazoo,

Patrick Lew Hayashi
