Biography - Kate Bauer
Born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne (UK), Kate Bauer began songwriting at the age of 15 inspired by her singer/songwriter influencers of the time - an unlikely mix of Neil Finn, Chris de Burgh, John Denver and Karen Carpenter.
Building Sandcastles is Kate's debut album, self-released in June 2009 and available for download via iTunes, Napster, Amazon etc. Its sound and approach follows a similar vein to such artists as Keane, James Blunt and Something for Kate.
Kate's first single from the album - These Four Walls - was positively received; featured as "Newcomer of the Week" on BBC Radio Newcastle's "Introducing" slot, on German radio stations and in the local press. This and two other album tracks were awarded "Semi-Final" positions in the 2009 UK Songwriting Competition.
In addition to songwriting, Kate plays piano/keyboards on all the Building Sandcastles tracks. Other musicians on the album include Federico Lopez (guitars) and Chris Bauer (drums and programming).
Kate's plans for 2009 include continuing to promote the new album to the music press, record companies/publishers and regional media, planning acoustic gigs for 2009 and working on an EP for release later this year.
Kate is looking for opportunities to work as an artist in her own right or to collaborate with existing performers.
A member of the Guild of International Songwriters and Composers, Kate is a former finalist of the UK National Schools Make Music Competition. She currently lives in Germany.
