Our youngest son, Rumi, was diagnosed with leukemia on July 30, 2008. My newest songs are not just about Rumi. They are about love, blood, baseball, sadness, pear trees & Patron, hope, ugliness, beauty, black swans, fear, laughter, tears, screaming, silence, living and dying. They are about me and you, our humanity. Writing and recording these new songs has given me meaning and comfort during the first year of a long road. Each song was written with and for my community. They are also dedicated to my family.

My family and community give me hope that we humans have the capacity to face unpleasant reality, see our global problems from a wider frame, prevent (not cure) suffering (of all kinds), and encourage sustainable well-being for ourselves, our community, and our planet.

As a singer, musician, scientist, psychologist, and contemplative, I am doing what I can to help our culture evolve toward sustainable well-being.

peace,

Donal
