Childhood Prodigy. life long musician / writer / listener.

The Venier Album

Well, spent 2500.00 got a guitar.
Yet really, there are a couple things a person needs to know, about this sort of guitar.

Started out with a Cedar Top, Spanish types, had a few of them.

The cedar top has a deep warm sound on the bass side, yet the clarity is not the greatest, on the treble side.

After learning a Cedar Top, and it's sound, I got my first Grand Concert Spruce Top.

Now good spruce, in the world, is not an easy type of wood to get, even in forestry, that is suitable for a Top.

There are certain areas, that could be hopeful areas, with a possibility, that the spruce found, could be good enough for a Top.

To make a long story short, the Venier Album cost me a guitar, and about 30k, not to mention my time as a
Childhood Prodigy.
Simply, and I'll try to be short.

For a Cedar Top, to sound any good, (in this environment) it needs humidity, and even more in winter.

To get a good spruce top, close to excellent, is about 20k, and they go up from there. Now my spruce top guitar, is book matched.
(bookmatched means where they cut, and the next cut, is the other side of the top, making two sides to a guitar top)
One side of my spruce top is toooooo dry, and the other side isn't. To humidify it on one side, and then get that sound. I knew for a fact, after watering it for a week, ( and it curing for three years of glue needing to dry), I had the ideal Spruce Top sound. I just knew it was ready.

Recorded, the entire album, in an hour and a half, no rehearsal, with a smoke break.

Turned out great, some of the best I've heard written these days.

Mastered, re-mastered, and finally, after near feild monitoring, it's got it's sound, and it's a sweet one, deeps and clarity.

Needless to mention a year later, after hoping to make a half and half Spruce Top whole, it cracked, and is now ruined.

Truth of the matter is, I'd do it again, just for that sound, or spend 20k or 40k, on an even better one. Yet yes, let's make some money first.
