Congrats on the Songwriter's Universe Top 5 for On The Corner Of Lonely & Lost! Great song! This is such a Lady A or Gloriana pitch...big time. Now go get it cut. :)
Thanks James. The Nashville Creative Director of BMG (Lady Antebellum) was a no, but I'm hoping for someone to cut. Gloriana or Thompson Square?
Your time is just around the corner, Adam!! Keep the faith!!.. And James.. Same words to you!!! You guys are amazingly talented!!:))
Hey man! Great job on your tracks! Proud of ya!!! GP

Jennifer - Really like the song I'd rather Have A Lonely Heart Than A Broken One. Great writing!
thanks James
Really nice job Julia. Great song and wonderful performance. I can really hear the emotion in your vocals, which is not something you can teach....you just got it!
Hey James!! Soo sweet of you to say that!!:) humbly appreciated!! And thanks for the 5 *****!
Meeting with BMG was a fail... 10 minute meeting, he had some encouraging things to say, but there were a couple trouble spots for him. He gave some brilliant critique though. Concise & thought provoking. It's not everyday you get input/advice from the Nashville Creative Director of one of the biggest record labels on the planet, so while this defeat stings, I'm gonna use it to get better as a songwriter. I was very impressed with his insights and articulation of what kept the song from being a great song. He is a genius and I'm so grateful that I had the opportunity to hear his input. I learned a lot in those 10 minutes! Thanks for all your support. It means the world to me!
I say this is a win / win, Adam. Use what you deem helpful and forget what isn't! What a great experience for you! Congratulations!
Doesn't sound like a fail to me Adam the very least you've made an important contact, that may pay off down the road. Sounds like you got a lot out of the meeting.
Hey Adam, I agree with Don and Greg, sounds like it was a win. It was great that he took the time to give you some advice and good input. I bet it will all pay off in the end! Hey, how many people get a meeting with BMG? That's a win in itself. Nice work.
"Lord of the Rings" was rejected by all the majors and told it wouldn't be successful and not worth backing. Finally a small company backed director Peter Jackson and gave him a go. Anther funny thing was they invested everything in the trillogy and would have gone under if the movies failed. Now they're one of the biggest things around. John Denver was also knocked back by 16 record companies. Just keep on at it and I strongly believe you'll have great results. Your songs are just too good not to make waves out there.
An executive at Decca Records turned the Beatles down after listening to their demo...ouch! Also, Please Please Me got a big makeover after it was presented to George Martin...so you're in good company!
Keep at it, Adam!! Sounds like you got some great advice!! I agree it's already a win situation meeting with them!!!:)
Thanks for the encouragement, everyone. His advice will definitely make me a better writer and I am grateful to have had the opportunity!
Are you going to make the changes he suggested then re-submit? And, since you got his attention with the version you have, are you submitting to the other labels. There's a darn good chance someone will bight. Best of luck to you!
God is using this to make you BETTER my friend....
Not sure yet, Peter. We'd have to revamp quite a bit (new 2nd verse without a competing metaphor, and cut back the chorus to give it a better delivery & close), and we spent 6 months on it. We may give it some air and come back to it later. Still submitting to other ops.
Just getting the attention of guys like this is a win. It's a confirmation that you are on the right track. Just keep doing what you're doing, and learn what you can. But don't get too discouraged and don't take all of their advice as gospel. Everyone has an opinion. Stay at it. Persistence pays off in the long run, especially when your focusing on the right things.
