Hey Steve: Thanks for the kind review of Lonely by the Sea. It is encouraging to get good marks on hook and arrangement from someone who knows their shit.

I listened to it 3 or 4 times. If you were not all the way up in the U.P., I'd come and see you. Do you have a regular band? Those pleayers were acceptionally good. Best of luck.

Ernest... your name says it all! Your review of my song, SHADES OF BLUE, has some of the most comprehensive and earnest remarks that I've ever received here on Broadjam. Thank you for your sincere in-depth review. I wish more reviewers took the time to really analyze the songs the way you do.

Derrick: Thanks for the kind words. I know what writers put inot their songs, so I think the least I can do is give the same attention and insight that I would like to receive. Regarding Shades of Blue, I wasn't just buttering your corn, I believe you have a hit there if you work the lyrics creatively around the great hook. Best of luck. I'll keep checking in on you.

"whoever said" is a great country tune. Being an ex-patriot of the Midwest myself (Wisconsin to Miami) I totally get the feeling. I've approached the subject on a few tunes.

Absolutely loved Lonely By The Sea. I noticed that seems so be the lean of your writing - missing California. I highly suggest Chris Boyden "Out of the Ordinary" here on BJ. Sounds like you two may have felt the same.

I thoroughly appreciated your review of "What I Will Hold Dear." I can't tell you how many nails you hit squarely on the head. It was re-arranged from its original concept but it was also done solely via e-mail as a demo and personal song for me. I put it out there for honest feedback and you truly went above and beyond in your constructive feedback. I wish all reviews had your depth and honesty.

Thank you Aletha for your kind words. You clearly have talent and you should not give up on this song or keep it personal. Although it is incredibly personal to you and your relationship with your grandmother, this song transcends that and can mean a lot of things to many people and that is the essence of a great song. For example while everyone’s life experience is different, I don’t think there is a person alive who hasn’t had that feeling of “not wanting to take that call”. You might try having a female vocalist sing the harmony as the voice of the one who is now lost. I’d love to hear your comments on some of my songs. I just posted my first the other day. Thanks.

Hmmm. Hadn't considered that. I wanted to keep it sort of non-specific so it could speak to the listener, regardless of who he has lost. I do think, however, I'm going to lean on Chris to re-cut it back to it's original intent which was supposed to be the flow of the lyrics as they were written (listed in my Bio) and done solely on an acoustic guitar. Sort of Every Rose Has its Thorn meets Drinkin' Me Lonely... I do appreciate the advice. I'll take all I can get!
