Thanks for downloading my song UNGNOME. Hope you enjoy it. Intend to start working on Vox soon for that and a few other instrumentals on my profile. Keep coming back. Hope to make some time soon to sit down with this site and give your material a serious listen. Love what I hear from the short sneak peaks I've taken so far. Keep it up; members can be replaced.
Good morning Ian. Nice job on Clock On. Really enjoyed this new upload. The harmonization and force added to this tune are definite improvements. Gives the piece much more personality. A real credit to you as an artist that you can take various criticisms and use them to your advantage.
Sitting at a Starbucks reviewing your song Prisoners and I got booted off before I got to send it. Glad I was able to track you down anyway. Love the song; looking forward to checking out more of your material. Really great quality in the whole presentation: vocally, instrumentally, lyrics, recording. Would have giving you straight A's had I been able to get the review through. Cheers.
Dave, I sincerely thank you for not only listeni g to my song, but for taking the time to write me despite the fact you were booted off (happens to me too). I truly appreciate the kind words. I would even take unkind words if they were constructive, a rare thing on broadjam these days. I also look fwd to experiencing your music, too. Btw, I am a starbucks fan too. Mocha frapps :)
Yeah i reviewed edge of nowhere.... and I had to track him down too! KEep coming backl at least once a week to check it out!
Hello Dave, I've now uploaded a new, longer version of Clock On, which you reviewed a while back. Thanks again for your comments. I like Outside. You have a good, soaring voice. Reminds me a bit of Clapton. Cheers. Ian
Damn man are you the only one who reviews music on here? Great review as always; Great tips. Some trashy gtr over this would definitely bring up the intensity. I've actually got some really angry, blood-spitting lyrics, (thinking bout the ex), for this I'm going to try tomorrow. Hope to reupload this weekend. Hope to have some time in the next few days to sit down and check out more of your new stuff and review some things. Keep pumping out that awesome material man.
I meant to say thrashy guitar, hehe, the old style solos where it's just crazy speedy runs and stuff! Hope you do get to add vocals, I'd like to hear it with them! I'll keep my eye on my notifications on here to see if you get it posted. You know, sometimes I think I am the only one on here who reviews stuff!! I've been getting an average of one to two a day........usually one. I added a few songs from my old band, off our last CD as a group.
Thrashy. Check.
Hey guys. Congrats on Violation making the Rock top 10
Hey thanks Dave, keep in touch, best to you.
Just listened to Anthill pt1. Oh man. So good! Really creative. I get the tribute part but this is all your own. Great idea to build on this concept and I can't wait to hear part 3. You're busy dude. Right on. Want to check out your new additions over the next couple of days. Had visitors this past week or so; haven't been able to work on a lot besides a remix or two. Thanks for giving me the boost to get back at it. Did get to check out Goatwhore from Louisiana on Sunday. Awesome band. Blew the headliner (Watain) out of the bayou. Going to see Waters perform The Wall in December. Dream come true. Later.
Thanks man, I'm enjoying the hell out of doing this anthill stuff. No idea on Part 3 yet. Still got two other things I'm working on......just started working on one of them tonight....got the drums and one guitar track done, but I'm off to bed for now! Enjoy Waters for me too. I've never got to see PF live, or Waters........I love his flyod stuff, he is the definition of "gone mad" for me, true loonatic! I strive to be half as looney as he is. I can only imagine how much tickets are, so again, enjoy that one for me! The Wall is one of my Top 3 of all time cds. It's actually what I've been listening to in the car on my ipod. I saw Paul McCartney a few years ago now, paid out ragious price for the tickets......but man, great show. They played forever and nailed everything. Worth every penny to see him! Can't wait to hear some new tunage of yours with vocals!
sorry to butt in guys but did someone say roger waters lol! i'm still kicking myself i didnt go to see him when he toured in sydney 5 years ago,i believe he had doyle bramhall II on guitar with snowy white.....now that would've been a sight to see.check out "in the flesh" roger waters live dvd, doyle really takes it out there
I think he's had a fairly stable lineup the past few tours and I believe Bramhall and White are on this tour. Rumour has it also that David Gilmour will make an appearance at select shows. If true I doubt that will include Vancouver. Search for their acoustic reunion at a benefit show for the Hoping Foundation this past summer.
Chime in Tranzphat, Chime in! Not butting in at all. I'll have to look for that In the Flesh DVD. The next DVD I get will be that Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, & Anthrax show, I'm dying to see it. Kicking myself right now because they were just here (all but metallica, and I've already seen them) about an hour away drive and I didn't go see it. But I'll add that to my Christmas list. Like I said above, Waters is one of my favorites. I think I've seen a few songs from the hoping Foundation thing.....because it was newer and it wasn't the Reunion show they did for......was it Live Aid, I think? I remember it was hosted by the guy who was in the wall movie. That VH1 behind the music on Dark Side of the Moon was really good too. Crazy how the original demo for "Money" sounds in that thing. Dave, got my fingers crossed for you that Gilmour makes an apperance at the show you're at. If I could play lead guitar like anyone, it would be Gilmour............he can absolutely make a guitar sing.
Thanks so much for your review of "Conversation." It could certainly very much would benefit from acoustic drums; or at least a bit of variation in the drums. Thanks for reminding me; I've been so busy coming up with new stuff that the old unfinished material sometimes gets neglected. Really loving your material. You guys have a stellar sound. Looking like you're garnering a supportive following back in Mass. Definitely agree with your reviewers that you deserve to be heard far and wide. Looking forward to keeping track of your new material. All the best. Dave.
Congrats on making the Progressive Top 10! Enjoyed the song you just posted, can't wait for vocals!
Hey thanks man. This little bit of recognition we're receiving feels pretty good doesn't it. Working on lyrics for 'Caravan' and 'Ungnome' now. Have a weeks vacation coming up so I may rent a rehearsal space and blow my voice out on some trax. Listened to 'Sit Alone Orchestra' last night; really impressed. Sounds like you have some musical training or band experience. That arrangement sounds really professional. Great textural choices; wouldn't have thought of a sitar with that arrangement but it totally works. Submit that to the right opportunity and you're probably going to have some success with it. I'm going to have to try to stretch myself out of my comfort zone and try something along those lines. Kudos.
Congrats on the top 10s for this song. It's a killer. Good luck with the new material. You guys have what it takes to take this thing anywhere you want. All the best.
Just started dipping my toe into your material Steve. Lovin' what I'm hearing. Definitely deserving of the rich successes you've enjoyed so far. Definitely be back for a listen. We all have a lot to learn from you about how to get your music heard and pursuing success. I'd certainly be very accepting of your input and critique should you sample a song or two of mine at some point. All the best. Go Canada Go!
Well if you mean rich sucess's as in $$$....well, no. BIO is building nice but TV placements don't pay upfront what one might think. Hopefully, the back-end through SOCAN will be kinder. Anyway, it;s about being broke and having fun ! Steve
Thanks for your review of TomP; and not giving me too much crap for it's shortness. I think there's something to that riff and I don't want to jump the gun and screw it up. Out at a coffee shop right now but I'm looking forward to checking out you stuff when I get home. Great to see more BC folks on here. Let's connect.
Sounds good Dave, right, go BC. Look forward to more of your tunes, peace Drew.
Hey Earl, congrats on all your latest top tens. Well deserved as always. Just listened to Descent and was totally blow away by it. Really palpable emotion in your playing there. Also Melancholy Harmonicle and loved that too. Definitely has that King Crimson quality to it, (one of my all time faves). All the best.
wow, thanks very much, I respect your opinion, and I appreciate those kind words, keep up those killer tunes !!
Hey Dave, I'm trying to 'friend" you on Facebook and hype your music on my page, there are about 386 Dave Sumner's...maybe you could do a reverse and look for Earl A. Brackett, and we'll connect up like that...
Right on Earl. I actually posted you to my page a couple of days ago. I'll find you when I get home later tonight and we'll hook up. Thanks for the support.
well, I actually meant the Facebook site as well as Broadjam, but that's up to you...I can see that we're hooked up here on BJ...thx.
Nice slide solo addition to Outside. Are the lower vocals new, or mixed a little higher too. Cool little sitar sounding thing.....or was that the slide guitar? Again dude, this is a great song.
Thanks again man. Yeah I felt a bit of a remix was in order. I think the slidy thing you can hear now is a combination of my Martin Backpacker and a mini classical gtr. It's a little out of tune but, it just sorta had that weird quality I liked. And the Bg vox were there before too but didn't cut in the first mix. Just worked on some subtractive EQ and it seems to have helped a lot. I have it submitted to an opportunity and the old mix was tanking; now with the new mix it's completely turned around: just goes to show the difference a better mix can make to a song that was failing. Hope your head's feeling better; I had a friend whose abscess got infected and he looked like the elephant man there was so much swelling. Sounds like you're coming around now. Good stuff. Gotta keep that awesome music coming.
Whoa! What are the chances? Thanks for the great review of Distilled dude. And another congrats on order to ya for yet another top ten. "I, Zombie" is psychotically, ghoulishly, cranium-slurpingly awesome. Reminds me of Possessed.
Man, I'm totaly embarassed. If I weren't doped up on pain pills and deprived of sleep, I would've recognized that was your tune, and I'd gave you 5's all the way around to help boost the song on the charts. I should have recognized it! But shows you that it's a damn good song, giving it 4's all the way around without realizing it was you. I only gave it a 3 on commercial potential 'cause I think with metal songs, we're forever gonna be limited to skate videos and an occasional scary movie. Funny too, though, you named the song something that could be taken as an alcohol reference....and I gave it a alcohol reference title as well! Maybe my subconcious was screaming at me "You know who this is idiot.....wake the hell up!" Seriously, I'm surprised I could type at all last night! Come Monday night, if they haven't done this damn root canal, I may very well pull this damn tooth myself! Again, kick ass metal tune bro!
PIECES. Hey congrats on another top ten. I told you I loved that tune; obviously others agree.
Thanks Dave. That song is getting some attention for me and Pat localy as well. What's really weird about it, hearing all the different bands it reminds people of. Bands I've never heard of, some I have, but really none of which have influenced me or Pat. I'll respond to the long posts we've started on your page soon, the last week or so I've been, and still am, dealing with an absessed tooth. It's both killing me, and driving me crazy at the same time!!
Distilled, hell yeah!! Thrash on!
I had to stick something heavy on here. Now all I need is Brodie Dahl to scream her ass off over it.
Thanks for the review Grand Slam. We're pretty different musically but I really like how theatrical yours is. Lots of cool ideas and great production. Cheers.
Dave, just listened to the 3 new tracks you put up. Gotta tell you that the last section of ungnome was extremely impressive. Has a "Doors" type quality that I really really liked. Also, "Outside" kicked ass too. You've got a great voice, you should definately sing more on your stuff. I know you said you had difficulty coming up with lyrics, but you should definately give it a go more often....the words were excellent, and again, great job on performing your vocals, impressive!
Hey thanks so much Johnny. And congrats on your first placement; that's gotta be a kick in the ass of the best kind to keep pushing and knowing this is all leading somewhere. And let me tell you, I fell off my chair listening to "Shit Your Pants." That is the funniest thing I've heard in years; First chance at an opening with explicit content, that has got to get placed. That's just screaming for a video. I kinda jumped on finishing Ungnome when someone pointed out in a review how abruptly it ends. It turned out there was a guitar track in that session that I didn't even remember recording and when I stuck it on the end everything just fell into place. And thanks too for the encouraging words on my voice; it's really hard for me to judge whether I can cut it or not as a singer but you certainly give me the confidence to write more and try a bit more singing. All the best dude and we'll keep listening.
It's nice when a song just does that, falls into place like that. That's what happened with my song Anthill (thanks for adding it to your player, by the way!). I came up with the chord progression while sitting in my bedroom with an acoustic.....I figured out the temp and laid the acoustic track playing the progression strumed first, then as a single ringing note. Then as I started laying different stuff, it just happened......I'm extremely proud of it, it's definately my favorite thing I've done so far. It's got my vocals and my buddy Pat's, so I'm glad to have a duet with him. I've got it easy with him, he can come up with stuff that I'd never be able to come up with. I'm gald you like Shit You Pants too, another one that just kinda fell into place. I want to do a video for it, I think if I could get one on youtube, I'd maybe be able to sell a few downloads of it off itunes or something. We've talked about doing one, and at some point I'll get tired of waiting and make a damn slide show video for it....I don't want to do one like that, but that'll probably be what ends up happening. And again, praises about your vocal track. You should definately be confident about it, it is strong. You could definately add vocals to some of the stuff you've already got. Of coarse, I know that coming up with words is hard.....definately a spot I have very little confidence in myself. I often can't get past the rhyming part......but even if we have to just make instrumentals, it's still fun as hell, aint it! So what's your background? You been in any bands, got any of that music online anywhere? From the pics, I'm guessing you're a metal head of some degree? That's pretty much my entire background, metal bands.
Definitely a metalhead from way back. Older bros. raised me on the best rock of the seventies. Then when Maiden Killers came out; well you can imagine a 13 year old hearing that in 1981. My sister used to send me Kerrang and NME from England so I was up on who was coming over before they hit Canada. Of course Rush was huge. Was a drummer/singer back then but where I grew up there was no music scene in those days. Just played in the garage learning the newest Metallica and Slayer material with my buddies. When I think of what we could of done with the internet back then; oh well: past is past...Played lots of clubs later in classic rock cover bands but I had to grow up I guess. Switched to learning guitar in my twenties, but I've always kept up on what's current. I've got loads of stuff on 4 track I'd like to transfer to digital; I seem to remember there being some interesting material on those. How bout you? Seems like you've been able to maintain a career at least on a semi pro level through the years. You could easily do a vid; all you'd need would be a few of your buddies and a pic cam with HD vid and have fun with it. Who knows: it goes viral and you're the next Weird Al. Love "Pieces." I wish I could just go through your stuff in one sitting. Sometimes though it's better to savour things so I'll slowly make my way though your material. Congrats on the top ten: another awesome tune. Good talking to ya.
That's funny, you saying that about the internet....if we had it back then.....my band use to have the same conversations all the time. Talking about the younger bands, just locally, how much easier they have it than we ever did. Back when I first started playing in bands, in order to get into a local club, you had to ride in on the coat-tails of a band already established with the venue. And even then, the venue had to give the "O.K." for you to be on the bill. You had to give them some sort of demo, and some sort of press kit. The press kits were an actual 8x10 b&w photo, with an actual printed on paper bio, in an actual real life folder. And cutting a demo wasn't nearly as easy as it is now. 4-Tracks were the cheapest way to go, but not even close to easy to do, or at least not easy to make sound good! And to get an out of town show.....you actually had to drive to out of town venues, and try to book the show in person. The internet and computers definately changed all that!! There's so much potential now of what you can do, it's hard to keep up and keep current. There have been some great fads though........mp3.com was a great thing when it first started, and they use to actually pay you. Then of coarse it had to change. Did you ever get caught up in that one thing....I can't remember the name of it now.... It was a TV show that came on USA Network, I think, where people voted for you on the website, and at the end of each month, who ever was in like the top 3 spots got to play on the TV show. My band made it as far as #5, the last month the did it. Man, what was that called. Garageband was another cool thing for a while. Sorry for rambling, I have a bad habit of typing book length posts....which is funny, cause in person, I usually don't have 2 words to say. But you said that about the internet, and I had to laugh to myself. You know you're getting older when you can rightfully say stuff like, "these kids today, they got it made. Back when I started, you had to do it this way, bla bla bla"......I'm 30 something and officially "getting old"!!

Dave, thanks for the review of my song, Daybreak for the Broken. Yours is one of the most insightful reviews I've had.......and it felt as though you listened to the entire track, which is also nice. I've considered adding a mic'd acoustic as you suggested. The solo is the first one I've ever written or played......I'm not a solo-ist for sure, bass is my true calling. I listened to several of your tracks, definately enjoyed what I heard. Like both version of Tardigrade, nice layers and cool clean riff. Also really liked the Drop D tune.......very "Police"-ish. Again, thanks for the positive review and insight.....I wish all were as good as yours.
Thanks Johnny. It was a pleasure. I've said it before that I'm a jack of all trades/master of none, and I always welcome a fresh perspective on what I do; even if I don't accept someone's advice it's still going to make me look at my music differently, and that's only a good thing. Glad you're so open to looking at your music from someone else's perspective. And I don't mean to suggest the lead wasn't played well; it was; it's just a feel/mood thing that MAY work better for a song with great potential. Thanks for taking a listen to my stuff; really appreciated the kind words. Really glad we both have these kinds of outlets for our creativity that at the very least puts us in contact with those of like mind. Keep Writin'/Keep Rockin'
Dave, thanks for your review of "Outside this One". Your comments were very insightful and helpful.
Your welcome Mike. it was a really fun track to listen to. Come to think of it, I forgot to add it to my play list... I'll do that now.
