Scott Holiday Road Good authentic sound, good natural rythm, Great vocals, well constructed lyrics. Chicago Style Blues would suit you well. Based on this song. Do more like this. Well done. Good recording. Best Sailing ...Friend Abram Band Dean
Abram Band, thank You so much for the comments, I agree I need to do more like this.
Hi Scott, I just heard your song Holiday Road on the Wisconsin Top 10. If definitely reminds me of Wisconsin!
Thanks Kyna, tell other people to listen to it and maybe we can see how far it does!
Jeff, Can't Stop listening to JJ and Mofro! Don't know whether to thank you or curse you! LOL Thanks man!
:-)
Roy, As you know, I'm a big fan of Broadjam, and an active professional musician, but you may not know I am also the coordinator for a new music festival called CranJam. Our music festival is a festival within a festival. Our event will occur during the Warren's Cranberry festival which attracts an audience of 300,000 Cranfesters each year. Its the largest cranberry festival in the world. I am looking for ways to promote CranJam in our first year and thought I'd ask you for ideas. We will host and promote 16 artists on September 27th and 28th from all over the Midwest and on Sunday the 29th hold a singer songwriter competition where songwriters will perform live to win great prizes like flat screen TVs and guitars as well as cash prizes. the entire event will be held under a large Circus Tent (sound familiar?) and held at the city's ballpark. I already have $4,000 in sponsors and there will be many more. Many of the artists performing are or could be Broadjam artists. Is there any way you would like to either participate or guide us in the right direction? We will have music in many genres performing in blocks that could be sponsored by Radio or TV stations, such as a Folk block, sponsored by Simply Folk, a Country block by a country station, rock by a rock station and so on. Let me know your thoughts.
Scott, Thanks for this opportunity. We love getting involved with any entity that provides an opportunity for our members. You have my contact info, please give me a call or send an email and we'll discuss. There may be members reading this who might contact you directly. We would love to be part of it in some way.....Best, Roy
Well Scott, Where is this festival and where is my invitation???
Scott, Robert is definitely someone you should consider for your festival. He is an awesome talent and a good guy as well....Roy http://www.broadjam.com/player/player.php?artistID=4849 1 http://www.broadjam.com/player/player.php?artistID=86866 2
Mexmo, Just wanted to say a personal thank You for your review of my song Locally Famous, Widely Unknown. I completely agree with you, music can be a very thankless business, and we most certainly do it because its who we are, not what we do. I see my music help society everyday and I hope that someday society realizes its importance. Thank you so much for the kind words. Check out my website at www.bearcreekrecording.com
Get the Funk out! I love the feel of this song, and who is singing the vocal, I love the quality of the voice! The bass line is absolutely freakin amazing and it has so many change ups, nice easy groove with a loose soulful sound. Nicely done!
You mean "Make it Alright" ? That's me doing instruments (yes bass!!) and arrangement/production and the fantastic Mr. Russell Morgan from Cheshire UK on vocals. http://russmorgan.co.uk/home.html 1 Thanks for the listen and kind words Scott!!
Nicely done my friend, check out more of my music at my site www.bearcreekrecording.com.
Nice site Scott, and I like the message as well as the music.
Thanks Jeff, for me, its all about the message.
Jeff, where do I find music from JJ and Mofro?

Sweet!
Thanks Roy, Great Comments! Maybe after I finish my fifth album I'll go back and fine tune the production on some of my better songs on all the albums. I have enough good songs now to put out a collection of all the best ones. I also have many more musician friends that can help with better instrumentation. Thank You so much for the great advice. I was chosen to go on a 50 city tour around the USA starting in September with a record label in LA. Wish me luck.
Roy, this is Scott Wilcox. I have been using Broadjam quite a bit more lately and I like it. If you get a chance, listen to my song Holiday Road. Here's the link: http://www.broadjam.com/player/player.php?play_file=86866_600137 1 Thanks Roy
Scott, Here are my thoughts and thanks for sharing this. Roy One of the best I've heard in the past few weeks. A good folk rock song that is well written and describes life here in the Midwest. I am certainly partial to this, especially the line about the "Cheesehead."...Lyrically, you have a gift. All of your songs so accurately describe what you are singing about. I have always loved your voice and believe that when the right person hears it, life will make a dramatic shift for you.....Your vocal phrasing is also very in sync with the groove of the song. Good work. If this was my song, here is what I might consider changing: Although I can live with the "Holiday Road" hook, I think replacing the word "Holiday" with another word might make this more appealing to this listener. I realize there is probably a road call Holiday and that's where the action is. Clearly this is what the song is about. But it might be more accessible to more people if Holiday is replaced with "weekend road", "Friday or Saturday road", or "way down at the end of the road"......From a commercial perspective, if I was just looking at the title, I might think it's about the holidays and skip by it. If it was my production, I would probably lose the first 27 seconds and start with the upbeat section. This is where the song starts. The first 27 seconds does not really add anything to the song and would lose a lot of listerners early on. Plus intros that drag are more likely to be skipped than heard and the industry listener might not make it to 28 seconds. And that's unfortunate for the person who listens to 50 songs a day, they do miss a lot. The vocal is way too up front in the mix in the intro. During the rest of the song it's better, but could still be pulled back a bit. Piano solo at 2:56 is almost inaudible in the mix. I hope this helps. Roy
Hi Scott, I was floored the first time I heard your music. And I'm equally impressed now. I couldn't disagree more with Roy's advice. "holiday road" is a great image, metaphor, trope, and it works very well rhythmically here. To change this would be equivalent to telling Los Lobos to change "Will the wolf survive" to "Will the dude survive". The critique I'd offer is that the rhythm section should be more present. The tunes needs bass and drums to be in the mix. But your vocal is fantastic and lowering the level would be like telling Otis Redding to back off. Fact is there are few that sing with guts that you do, and to write dangerous tunes/lyrics along with the pipes you've got is just a gift, plain and simple. The keyboard break is pitiful but that's easily fixed. This isn't supposed to be mainstream. Katy Perry, Keith Urban, and Young Jeezy are mainstream. This is class Americana that needs just a tweak or two. If you don't know of JJ and Mofro go listen now. You're coming from the same musical place and level, albeit from very different geographic regions. And this is damn good. Jeff
Jeff, I can't thank you enough for your kind words, and I agree with you. However, Roy has some good points as well. I am always looking for opportunities to improve my craft. And he was being critical because I asked him for his advice and I am thankful for it. As you know, in the end it is truly my decision whether I take it or not. I'm gonna go and listen to JJ and Mofro right now. To be honest Jeff, I know that my voice carries my mediochre intrumentals. But its just me man, I don't have much choice otherwise. I do everything all the piano, guitar, drums, etc . So my hope is someone will come along and sign me so I can use better musicians to flesh out my songs. Thanks so much for the Cudos man, you rock!
THANKY--SCOTT--for the great review of my song--CAR LOT BLUES--had a lot of fun with that one!--cheers--joe.
Nashville Joe, I'm gonna be checking out more of your music, good stuff man!
THANKY----most of them are demo's--needing finishing touches--when i get my song/I WAS BORN IN KENTUCKY/ done correctly--some time--i think it will be a hit song--cheers--joe.
Scott, thnks for your review of its a dogs life. I purposeley kept the tempo med-slow because I had acouple of lines in there about the dog napping or just taking it easy. In my mind I envisioned a dog laid back, of course that always depends on the breed, small dogs are hyper, large dogs are less so. Ive got a pretty cool video of the song posted on my page. u might get a kick out of it. Thanks again for the review, it was very fair. Donovan
I'm a pretty big dog fan myself, we have a gold retriever named Khloe. I just wrote a song for the humane society's commercial called, Those Words.
Scott Thank you for reviewing Tybee Island Blues and it was a real local experience for me Thanks again Charles Bunting
Charles, I don't want you to think that making a local sounding song is bad, I do it all the time. But you may want to make it less Local sounding if you're going to try and mass market it. But really good song, nice job man!
No worries Man, we all have our views, and with this song being in the top ten in several category's make me feel Good about it, I'll be looking for Beaver too, lol
Scott if you really want to hear local Check out "Thunder Thighs and Butterflies"
LOL I already like it!
5 stars for LOOKIN FOR BEAVER--YEAH!--joe
Thanks Nashville Joe!
Natalie I love your vocals! Very nice control. But if I had one request it would be to smile more in your promo photos, you have beautiful smile!
Hey Scott, Ran across "Holiday Road" in the reviews. You got a great voice, to say the least, and some well-written tunes, too. Hank Thomas
Thank You so much Hank, I'm just trying to perfect the craft like all the rest of us. If you ever hear of any voice work or songwriting opportunities let me know!
Sure thing.
Thank you for a beautiful review! :)))
Anita, you have some beautiful music, you deserve it. Keep it up!
Thank you for reviewing "Still I Wonder!" I appreciate both the positive and constructive comments.
Scott, Thanks for your review of When You Said Goodbye. The song doesn't contain a bridge. A bridge introduces new melodic movement usually with at least one new chord. The end is a tag. I did write a bridge for it but didn't include it because the song would be close to 5 minutes. I thought the hook did tie everthing together. Thought the grades were pretty low. Thanks for taking the time to listen and to share your thoughts.
Brian sorry about the low grades, but I just thought it needed work, but its just my opinion, Cudos to you man for keeping at it. Just like the rest of us, we're all just trying to improve our craft. Take care.
You are entitled to your opinion. I am entitled to disagree. No hard feelings. Peace.
Don't sell yourself short Milly, you're no novice. you have very good insight and a good grasp of lyrics and melody, keep it up! You need to find a friend who plays guitar and put some music to those songs. I just listened to Take Me Away, Very nice! you can hear my music at www.bearcreekrecording.com
Hi Scott,Thank you so much for your review of "Take Me Away" and of my own abilities. I absolutely agree with you regarding the recording of the songs and the instruments needed. At this very moment, Take me away is with a producer and I cant wait to hear the end product. I'llupload it once its done, would love to get the feeddback on it. After that, I hope to take my best songs and do the same. Most of my songs are Acappella at the moment as I wrote them before I started teaching myself guitar at Christmas. I take all feedback on board and am grateful for the insight from those already in the industry, Again Many thanks Milly
Consider me a new fan. Fantastic voice and lyrics.
thanks so much for the kind words Jeff, I'm driving to chicago tomorrow to be the headliner at the Hard Rock Cafe, Wish me luck!
Hey Scott thanks for a positive and honest review of "What You Do" ! Hey Man Holiday Road just entered some personal playlists. This is class, OK working class, but it's damn good. There are folks on the radio that don't have what you've got here. Jeff
Jeff, thank you so much for the amazing comments. I agree with you, the radio doesn't have as much to offer these days, I wish I could get my music to the people that make those decisions. Not always easy when you live in Wisconsin. But I can't thank you enough for the support. Keep in touch
